In a world where luxury hotels constantly crow about exclusivity, Seattle’s 121-room Alexis is that rare, confident voice making the case that, in the hospitality business, it’s okay to be hospitable. It turns out that a stylishly appointed boutique hotel, even one with an artistic bent, loses none of its luster by accommodating a wide range of guests — from business travelers to families to the occasional rock star. They’ll even lay a doggie bed out for your St. Bernard, if your pooch has a taste for fine hotels.
There’s a wide range of rooms and suites to choose from, all with Frette linens and goose-down comforters on the beds, city or neighborhood views, and comfortable desks with ergonomic chairs. The regular suites are nothing to sniff at — one features a living room with a marble fireplace, another a two-person soaking tub and dual walk-in shower — but the specialty suites are the standouts. They’re inspired by the Seattle arts community, among them the Canlis suite with hand-blown glass by Jean-Pierre Canlis and life-size photos of the artist at work, and the Experience Music Project suite with blown-up black-and-white concert photos and classic album covers adorning the walls.
Outside, the neighborhood is an excellent one for business and leisure travelers alike. The waterfront is just three blocks away, and the business district, Pike Place Market and Pioneer Square are all within a mile. Even closer, of course, are the hotel’s own Library Bistro and Bookstore Bar. The Library Bistro, with food by Seattle native David Hatfield, is modeled after a 1940’s supper club with ceiling-high book cases, high-backed booths and plenty of dark wood. And it turns out a bookstore is a pleasant place to dine and drink, too, especially when it’s got a vast whiskey library to supplement the literary offerings.

What I liked:
Public areas, bar, spacious room.
What the hotel could do better:
The wi-fi is not 'free' as advertised on the Tablet site, but in fact 'free' for only 15 minutes per 24 hours, and then you must pay either $5.95 per hour or $19 per day for wi-fi access.
The hotel's own website even says
'Wireless high-speed Internet access, complimentary to Kimpton InTouch Guest Loyalty members'.
Maybe it could simply offer free wi-fi like numerous other hotels do.

What I liked:
The hotel bar was great. Rustic, great atmosphere. Great service when ordering lunch in my room.
What the hotel could do better:
For $275 a night ... this hotel did not meet my expectations. I felt it was average hotel experience that did not warrant this price. Outlet plugs were minimal in my room. I had to unplug the alarm clock near the bed to use for laptop and phone charger. I also left a bag of toiletries in my room and promptly called the hotel (leaving a voicemail) from the airport with all required information to have it returned to me. I never heard back from Housekeeping unfortunately.

What I liked:
The hotel is centrally located to downtown and Pike Place Market. The staff exceeded all expectations. They were attentive, polite and helpful. They even gave me a bottle of wine for my birthday.
What the hotel could do better:
Nothing, had a wonderful stay!
