Please note: Blue Palace Resort & Spa is closed for the winter season and will reopen again April 22, 2010.
Greece used to be known as a bargain holiday spot, a fact that may seem astonishing, given its almost unbearable natural beauty. Today Greece is home to some of Europe's finest hotels, whether in Athens, Santorini, or the breathtaking island of Crete, home to the Blue Palace Resort.
Here, in the tiny fishing village of Plaka (just outside of Elounda), you can soak up that trademark deep Greek blue, with astonishing views of the Gulf of Elounda and the Mediterranean from your chic little suite, villa, or bungalow. The little island of Spinalonga floats in the distance, visible from your private terrace or balcony — and if you are lucky, you will have your own private infinity pool, where you can bask in the Mediterranean sun and contemplate the sights.
This is a fairly large, sprawling resort, in classic Greek style, with indoor and outdoor pools, five restaurants, and an elevator to carry guests down the cliffside to the beach. The interiors are contemporary, but not overdesigned, just crisp, spare decor and all the niceties modern travelers demand, from internet and satellite TV to 24-hour room service. The villas are utterly decadent, built on two floors, with master and guest bedrooms, and the Royal Blue Villa is the perfect place to live out that Onassis fantasy, with a private gym and an indoor swimming pool with a view of the ocean. But even if you can't spring for the Grand Villa, the Elounda Spa & Thalassotherapy is there, with a full suite of treatments designed to make you feel like a billionaire.
Kids:
Guests over the age of 18 are considered adults. Some rooms accommodate 3 or more. The "Royal Blue Villa Sea View with private heated pool" room sleeps up to 6 guests. For crib/cot, must book "Superior Bungalow Sea View" room or larger. For 2 adults + rollaway bed, must book "Superior Bungalow Sea View" or larger. For 2 adults + 2 kids beyond crib age, must book "Deluxe Suite Sea View with private pool" room or larger.
Cribs are available for an additional fee of free. Roll-away beds available for an additional fee of extra charge. No additional charges for kids beyond crib/roll-away.
Fenced in pool available that allows kids. Babysitting services provided by screened hotel personnel at €13 per hour. Daycare services provided, kids between the ages of 0 and 3 can be dropped off on a fixed schedule. The restaurant is kid-friendly with high chairs and a kids menu. Room service offers a kids menu. "

I Liked
The ambience, the restaurants, specially te Blue Door, the magnificent views, the excellent service, the spa services and the outstanding friendly and efficient staff.
What the hotel could do better
Was not impressed by the pool area by the beach, and by our Bungalow's decor , as it was very plain.
I know we opted for the most basic room, but still, for the price paid it should have been more luxurious.

These reviews are posted exclusively by verified guests whose stays were booked through TabletHotels.com. We do encourage our clients to express their opinions, and what makes a hotel experience great is often something subjective, a matter of personal taste. At the same time, many of the hotels we list are extreme in one dimension or another, and are bound to disappoint somebody somewhere. These reviews are an excellent way to identify a hotel's particular quirks, and thereby avoid a poor hotel-guest match. But remember: if a hotel's overall customer rating falls lower than 15 out of 20, the hotel will be removed from our listings.
