Bomans Hotel
Hamnen 619 30,
Trosa, Sweden
Style: Traditional Elegance
Atmosphere: Quiet
44 Rooms
By now you’re probably well aware that there’s much more going on in Scandinavian hospitality than chic boutiques and mid-century modern design. A certain rustic coziness, and a certain respect for tradition, are among the markers of Sweden’s best luxury inns. Trosa, less than an hour’s drive along the coast from Stockholm, is an upscale enclave that’s known as a summer home for some of the capital’s brightest lights. Here a design showcase would feel out of place — much more suitable is a hotel like Bomans, family owned for generations, a mélange of styles and eras, the only common thread being the curatorial taste of its proprietors.
Fortunately for all involved, it’s a fine taste indeed. The very smallest rooms are quite small, but they spread out quickly from there, culminating in the top-floor suites with their distinctive floor plans. It makes for an accessible package — a modest room at the inn for a modest price, or something more expansive for those with the means. For some guests the bedroom will be secondary; the Bomans are a family of restaurateurs just as much as they are a family of hoteliers, and their ultra-local fare, stylishly prepared, draws its share of dinner guests. More than anything it’s the atmosphere, a sort of luxe-pastoral by the sea, that keeps them coming back.
How to get there:
Bomans Hotel is approximately 45 minutes by car from Stockholm. It takes approximately 45 minutes by train from Stockholm Central to Vagnhärad Station and then a further 10 minutes by bus to Trosa. Please contact CustomerService@TabletHotels.com for assistance with airport transfers.
