About Brown's Hotel:
Brown's Hotel is a 5 star luxury boutique hotel set in the Mayfair area of central London. A short walk from exclusive Bond Street shopping, West End theatres and St James's, Brown's Hotel also features The Albemarle, the hotel's restaurant which serves a daily menu of classic British dishes.
Tablet Hotels review:
Boutique hotels come and go, but a few of London’s top hotels have been in it for the long haul. At the end of the last century Brown’s, a fixture since 1837, was starting to show its age. But after a big-ticket renovation (the top to bottom Olga Polizzi treatment) it’s back in business, as grand, refined and quintessentially English as it must have been back in its 19th-century prime.
There’s an element of the theatrical in its studied Englishness; you’re helped out of your car by a doorman in a top hat, in front of a row of eleven Georgian townhouses in the middle of Mayfair. The interiors, though, are an updated, contemporary take on the classic London hotel, managing to come off cultured and clubby while at the same time looking quite a bit more modern and sophisticated than the standard country-house drag.
Classics of British literature line the shelves, paintings by British artists hang on the walls, and The Donovan Bar is named for the photographer Terence Donovan, whose prints are prominently displayed. And for patrons of the West End theatres, the Albemarle opens early enough to enjoy a pre-theatre dinner from its menu of British classic dishes, created by Executive Chef Lee Streeton and Director of Food Mark Hix.

Guests over the age of 13 are considered adults. Some rooms accommodate 3 or more. The "From Deluxe Room" room sleeps up to 3 guests. For crib/cot, must book "Deluxe Room" room or larger. For 2 adults + rollaway bed, must book "Deluxe Room" or larger. For 2 adults + 2 kids beyond crib age, must book "Deluxe room interconnecting" room or larger. Connecting rooms available. I like the general vibe. Brown's is not over-designed the way a lot of hotels are these days. There are no gimmicks. The scale of the hotel is also pleasant - not an over-the-top monstrosity decked out with acres of marble and chrome. It is human-scale and tasteful - no shouting. The rooms are a decent size for London, the breakfast room is always an interesting place to be and the public areas (though not huge) feel real and lively. Door staff are also very helpful.
What the hotel could do better
Nothing really.

The location was convenient, but not too convenient.
What the hotel could do better
We chose the hotel over others because we expected some "English" character. We can't say that it has this. The hotel is clean, well maintained, etc. Faced with the choice, we would chose other Tablet options in the city which may not be typical "English", but which deliver more wow.

These reviews are posted exclusively by verified guests whose stays were booked through TabletHotels.com. We do encourage our clients to express their opinions, and what makes a hotel experience great is often something subjective, a matter of personal taste. At the same time, many of the hotels we list are extreme in one dimension or another, and are bound to disappoint somebody somewhere. These reviews are an excellent way to identify a hotel's particular quirks, and thereby avoid a poor hotel-guest match. But remember: if a hotel's overall customer rating falls lower than 15 out of 20, the hotel will be removed from our listings.
The opinions expressed in these reviews are solely those of our clients; the opinions expressed in any hotel management responses are solely those of the hotels themselves. We do not endorse any of the opinions expressed within the reviews, and we are not affiliated with any of the hotels in question.
