Situated in the historically rich and geographically blessed southeastern corner of Sicily, Cambiocavallo is a country resort just inland from the port of Pozzallo, and a few miles from the UNESCO-honored baroque city of Modica. But the property’s style has little to do with the flowery, classically constructed churches and castles that bring camera-snapping tourists to the region. The Mediterranean roots of this sparely furnished, warmly lit hotel are showing, sure, but the interior design is purely contemporary.
Smooth stone, gray slate, and exposed brick set a cool scene for the minimalist chairs and angular dark-wood bookshelves that dot the lobby and public spaces. An understated open-air courtyard with sky blue-tinged walls and an old carob tree forms the hub for six high-ceilinged guest rooms. Each is elegantly decked out in simple hues of white, cream, chocolate, and black, with the occasional splash of gold or burnt orange, and supple textures like leather, soft cotton, and smooth wood. All of the spacious bathrooms feature light guaranteed to flatter; the two suites also have Jacuzzis. Up-to-date amenities like satellite television and internet access could almost make guests forget they’re in the country, but one glimpse of pastoral green hills from each room’s private veranda brings them back to reality.
Country-style breakfasts starring sun-ripened local produce are served in the courtyard, weather permitting, or at an antique communal table during cooler months. Jaunts to the sea or to the stately reminders of yesterday’s civilizations are easy trips for those craving a bit more activity than the peaceful Cambiocavallo provides.
Kids:
Guests over the age of 4 are considered adults. Some rooms accommodate 3 or more. The "Suite" room sleeps up to 4 guests. For crib/cot, must book "All" room or larger. For 2 adults + rollaway bed, must book "All" or larger. For 2 adults + 2 kids beyond crib age, must book "Suite" room or larger.
Cribs are available for an additional fee of €10. No additional charges for kids beyond crib/roll-away.
There are no babysitting or daycare services available.
