Capri is where the Roman Emperor Tiberius came to live, and where innumerable European jet-setters have hung their hats for who knows how many decades. Naturally, it couldn’t remain a secret forever, and today finds Capri beset with day-trip tourists, jamming the streets and crowding the sights until the last ferry returns to Naples or Positano.
Better, then, to retreat to Anacapri, the side of the island once derided as rustic and uncultured, today something of a refuge from the crowds. Here high in the hills above the town and the sea, you’re close enough to the designer shops and restaurants of Capri proper, yet secluded enough to feel like you're on a country getaway.
The Capri Palace hotel is one of Anacapri’s finest, its stunning sea views and throwback Roman Empire elegance chief among its charms. Whitewashed architecture and impeccably manicured gardens lend an aristocratic air, and the accommodations are fit for royalty. Guest rooms are opulent in gleaming white, with chandeliers, tile and marble baths and canopy beds, and the suites are delightfully over-the-top—the Acropolis, the penthouse suite, boasts perhaps the hotel’s finest sea view, and the Megaron, more apartment than suite (with a name fit for a Japanese movie monster), adds a private garden and swimming pool to the package.
During the day, most guests choose to avoid the crowds by lounging by Capri Palace’s pool, or taking spa treatments at the Beauty Farm. At night, descend into Capri to sample the town’s many restaurants, or stay in for a meal at L’Olivo, the hotel’s Michelin-starred restaurant. And if you’re feeling like a high roller, take a spin on one of the hotel’s two yachts, should you have neglected to bring your own.

What I liked:
We went to the Capri Palace Hotel and Spa for our honeymoon for 3 nights and loved every minute of it - and wished we could have stayed even longer. The reception staff greeted us immediately upon arrival, and bought us 2 glasses of Prosecco on the terrace to celebrate our honeymoon, while our room was readied (we were a bit early). The staff was so attentive to our needs, and we could have stayed pool side for days and not explored Capri because we were so relaxed and pampered. The infinity edge pool was amazing and the attendants did everything to make us comfortable. The hotel staff was wonderful - we had amazing breakfasts every morning with fresh fruits and eggs - and loved our evening drinks on the terrace with attentive staff and great drinks. The staff was even so nice to provide us a celebratory bottle of champagne - which we of course enjoyed. The spa is a must for any visit and be sure to plan for as much pool time as possible. The view is breath-taking and the terrace is a cozy place for drinks in the evening.
What the hotel could do better:
Our only negative feedback is that we asked for a non-smoking room, but we did notice that it smelled a bit like smoke in the afternoons when we returned back from the pool. We are not sure if it was the previous guests, or from an adjacent room with smoker - so we ran the ceiling fan and that helped out.
