Not IQs, as in Intelligence Quotient — though you will indeed feel smart staying here — but i Qs, Italian for, well, “the Qs.” This is an annex, or perhaps more precisely a satellite property, belonging to Charming House DD.724, and its four exceedingly stylish suites stand about twenty minutes from the main hotel, close by to the Piazza San Marco, with views over the Rio del Mondo Nuovo.
It’s notable for essentially the same reasons we love the original Charming House; in a town that’s known for its historical beauty, and whose hotels are known for a certain forced antique cuteness, the Charming House’s style is decidedly modern, its version of Venice a more relevant, contemporary one than you might have thought possible. And if the small size and intimate atmosphere is a strength of the original Charming House (it is), then it’s even more true of the Qs.
The three suites are distinct in layout and décor, but all are roughly comparable ground-floor units, with modernist furnishings and works of contemporary Italian art, while the entry-level Charming room is a bit more basic. At every level, the rooms and suites come with in-room continental breakfast service, and that’s about it — the theme here is privacy and self-reliance, not white-glove hotel service. There’s plenty of that elsewhere in Venice — what’s key about the Qs is that you can enjoy the typical old Venice by day, and shut it all out by night.

What I liked:
The highlight of staying at the Charming House IQ was the concierge, Anna When we walked in the door, she greeted us when genuine hospitality and helpfulness. She made herself available each morning to answer any questions that we might have had, providing information and guiding us in our plans to enjoy Venice. We are very thankful and appreciative of Anna's assistance during our time in Venice.
The location was ideal - far enough away from St. Mark's Square to avoid the crowds but an easy walk to most locations. Finding the hotel was an interesting adventure as we decided to take a public transportation boat from the airport to the closet stop to the hotel (rather than spending 130 EURO on a boat taxi). Walking through Venice for the first time, finding the hotel - was interesting but yet fun. One caveat is that the hotel does not have a sign ....... we were standing in front of it wondering where it was .... only later realizing that we were standing in front it.
Our room was one of the smaller ones but it still seemed quite large to us, given that rooms in US cities are much smaller. The bed was gigantic but the mattress was a bit too hard for us. I did wish the bed was more comfortable - but nevertheless we slept well having walked and doing too much each day in Venice. The bathroom rocked - best shower ever! A two-person shower that felt like rain.
The breakfast also rocked. Anna literally brought us breakfast to our room each day, that included a selection of cereal / granola, croissants, rolls, yogurt, juice, coffee / tea, etc. It was a great way to start each day. While dropping off the breakfast, Anna would check in with us to see if we needed any assistance for our plans for the day in touring Venice.
