It’s not much of a castle, really, and not quite a manor house either — but Colona Castle’s name, in any case, puts the right sort of picture in your head. You don’t come to Cape Town for outrageous, cutting-edge design, but for the classic good life — traditional architecture, old-fashioned hospitality, and a natural setting that’s unparalleled in its beauty.
Here, twenty minutes outside of town, you’ll find all three: Colona Castle is a Tuscan-style villa, an intimate eight-room hideaway, high on a hillside, affording panoramic views of the mountains, the lake district, Cape Town’s city lights and the Atlantic coastline.
The seven suites (and one cozy bedroom) all differ in style, leaving the Tuscan theme at the door — they range from safari-camp fantasy to British colonial to Indian or Moroccan, all united by the common threads of rich materials and contemporary clean lines. Hotel amenities are simple, fitting the small scale of this intimate villa hotel — there’s a pool deck, complete with stunning views, and a kitchen using the finest organic and local ingredients. Nearby you’ll find Sandviel Lake and the beaches at False Bay, four golf courses lie within a few miles, and the vineyards of the Winelands are just a day trip away.
How to get there:
Colona Castle is approximately a 25 minute drive from Cape Town International Airport. Please contact customerservice@tablethotels.com to arrange airport transfers.

What I liked:
The room( we upgraded when there to the english suite) was fabulous.
Michael, the owner was incredibly helpful when my partner fell ill, taking him to the local clinic.
What the hotel could do better:
To make people aware that dining at the hotel requires booking in advance as they have to get a chef and also of the price for the set dinner which is high by south African standards. It was very nice though.
The way the upgrade was priced was not logical to us but the room ,although expensive was truly beautiful.

What I liked:
I loved the vintage look to it and the feeling of being at home. The view from the outside balcony was breathtaking. They took good care of us and made sure we had a wonderful stay. I surely recommend it to my friends and family and probably visit it back one day.
What the hotel could do better:
Nothing, had a wonderful stay!

What I liked:
Colona Castle is wonderful. It kind of felt like staying at your rich aunt and uncle's house. Nicole, the owner, brings a designer's eye, attention to detail and high end service to the entire hotel. We were a little nervous with our small kids and beautiful antiques that she would be uptight. She wasn't, she was kind but firm about what they could and couldn't touch and always gave them alternatives to play with.
We stayed in the Safari suite, the room was beautiful and perfect for our family. It couldn't have been more comfortable. The food was delicious, reasonably priced and they went out of their way to accommodate the children.
It is true that the location is 30 minutes from Cape Town, but for us it worked out well. We had a car and wanted to see the Cape, not just Cape Town.
All and all, we felt very well taken care of. The decor is beautiful, the staff is amazing and we simply couldn't recommend Colona Castle more highly.
What the hotel could do better:
The only hiccup was the cost of doing laundry. It was our mistake for not checking the prices... but they charge by item vs. load so we ended up paying a fortune ($100) for 2 small loads. It was like a couple dollars per toddler sock... more than they are to buy new. Oh well...
