Though it’s never quite explicit, you have to imagine Cosmo Hotel Berlin Mitte’s name is meant to be taken more like cosmopolitan than cosmos — there’s scarcely a touch of the slightly retro space-age modernism that’s visible in Berlin’s other boutique hotels. Instead it’s a luxe vision, with lines as clean as you expect from modern German design, mixed with a touch of plushness that at times recalls London or New York.
The location, midway between the Potsdamer Platz and the Alexanderplatz, is cosmopolitan, that’s for sure — Mitte is Berlin’s central meeting point, and a hotel like the Cosmo appeals to a wide variety of guests, from adventurous sightseers to design-savvy business travelers to leisure-tripping culture vultures. It’s got more than enough style to put a personalized stamp on your stay, but it stops well short of the art-installation vibe that’s on offer in some of Berlin’s more outré boutique hotels.
Meanwhile the shops on the Friedrichstrasse are a short walk away, as is the leafy Unter den Linden boulevard. And the Cosmo is something of an attraction unto itself. The hotel’s plentiful restaurant and lounge space host locals and hotel guests in equal measure, thanks to Ottmar Pohl’s unique way with herbs and essential oils.

What I liked:
The rooms were very quiet and very comfortable. They aren't huge, but at the end of the day all I want is a quiet comfy bed to sleep in. The bathroom was nice and roomy and they even had power outlets, which is uncommon in Europe. The breakfast was surprisingly nice as well, and a bargain at 4.90 for organic eggs and a large spread. It also made it quick and easy to get fueled for the day.
There is no free wifi in the rooms, just in the hotel lobby, which was fine for us.
Overall, I was really pleased with the value for money at this hotel. I would certainly stay there again.
