The boutique hotel concept has taken a little longer to arrive in Jerusalem, and the Dan Boutique is not exactly your typical boutique hotel. It helps that it was originally laid out as an apartment house — the rooms, while hardly sprawling, never feel cramped. And the style, an eclectic blend of east and west, is clearly not afraid of a little color — not for Dan the dreaded all-white minimalist look. A more traditional and frankly more luxurious option is the King David, by the same owners; for the price, however, the Dan is hard to top.
With a shade over a hundred rooms, it’s not terribly small, though friendly service helps keep the Dan from feeling oversized. Some rooms look out at Mount Zion, others the sedate German Colony, and the best views aren’t necessarily reserved for the suites — some upper-floor bedrooms have views of the old city, and are well worth a modest supplement.
There’s a lobby restaurant serving light meals and a cocktail bar as well, but with little more than a (charming) rooftop sundeck, the Dan isn’t meant to be entirely self-contained. Fortuately it’s walkable from the Old Town, the German Colony, and downtown Jerusalem, with a wealth of excellent restaurants along the way.

Nicely appointed rooms, good finishes, very attentive service. Not situated in a bustling area so relaxed.
