Eventi — A Kimpton Hotel

With the boutique-hotel trend in full flourish, especially in New York, there’s a hyper-specialized hotel for just about every subspecies of hospitality hipster. Fortunately for the rest of us, there are also still places like Eventi, a centrally located macro-boutique in Chelsea. Though it’s certainly no corporate bore, Eventi, like most of its Kimpton cousins, prizes inclusiveness rather than exclusivity. It’s business-friendly, leisure-friendly, kid-friendly, even pet-friendly, and while the design is certainly eye-catching, it’s never aggressively so — its good looks are accessible rather than intimidating.

The location, too, is suited to many tastes. For business, Midtown is right out the door, with Penn Station a few blocks away and the creative districts in and around the Flatiron a short walk south. For gallery-hoppers, Chelsea may be the single best neighborhood on Earth, packed to the rafters with over four hundred galleries. And then there’s the elevated High Line Park, already one of Manhattan’s most popular sights just a few years after opening. Eventi’s own enormous indoor-outdoor plaza takes a bit of inspiration from both — partly a venue for Jumbotron-size visual art installations, partly a high-design urban green space.

The best way to survey the surroundings, though, might just be right from the guest rooms. They’re situated between the sixth and twenty-third floors, and all come with floor-to-ceiling windows. No surprise, the suites and the aptly named Cityview rooms offer the best vantage points on the cityscape. For those who must turn their attention to a screen, high-speed wired and wireless internet come complimentary, with work-desks and ergonomic chairs in every room. And if ergonomic chairs don’t exactly scream extravagance, consider the bathrooms: they’re decked out in marble and fitted with dual-fixture rain showers, plus C.O. Bigelow bath amenities and plush terrycloth robes — precisely the sort of classically cushy amenities you’d expect at a hotel that places as much emphasis on comfort as style.
