Fazenda Sao Francisco do Corumbau
Ponta do Corumbau, s/nº
Ponta do Corumbau, Bahia, Brazil
Style: Modern Design
Atmosphere: Quiet
10 Rooms
Let’s face it: the details of your hotel room are almost beside the point when you’re staying on a beach as staggeringly beautiful as Corumbau. On the other hand, there’s something to be said for a hotel that’s so wisely designed and seductively outfitted that it’s not completely outshined by the white sands and clear waters of southern Bahia’s spectacular landscape.
The Fazenda São Francisco do Corumbau started, as so many of the best boutiques do, not as a business venture but as a personal project — a couple from São Paulo originally conceived of the place as a beach retreat for friends and family. Today, the forested coconut farm perched on an unspoiled (and practically deserted) stretch of sand is home to a ten-room resort featuring four private bungalows. A handful of suites are located in the main lodge, while four more are situated in nearby cottages; the decor is pared-down and contemporary, involving rustic natural materials like wood and straw, terra cotta, soft lighting, and pretty tilework. In-room luxuries include bath products by Natura Ekos, 300-thread-count cotton bed linens, and private terraces facing the ocean.
The aquamarine sea extending from the Fazenda’s beach is a playground for snorkelers and scuba divers, but the relaxed resort also lends itself to the pleasures of doing nothing. Inviting chaise lounges surround the laguna-style salt-water swimming pool, and hotel staff are more than happy to deliver your cocktail of choice to any hammock or terrace on the property. The hotel is eco-friendly (solar power and recycled water help keep the place running), a fact that’s especially evident on the Fazenda’s menu — the fish comes right off the local boats, and fresh salads are made with vegetables grown in the farm’s organic garden.
How to get there:
Transfers are available from Porto Seguro airport, three and a half hours’ drive to the north; flights into Porto Seguro depart daily from Rio, São Paulo and Salvador.
