In Rome, perhaps more than anywhere else, an added measure of privacy and seclusion is probably the dearest luxury. In this location just off the Piazza Navona, in a neighborhood which is, even by Roman standards, particularly picturesque and history-steeped, there’s every risk of a hotel becoming an exercise in crowd control. Not so the Gigli d’Oro Suite — this aristocratic residence is divided into just six (strangely singular) suites, and each one, in the current high-end Roman fashion, is an eclectic blend of old and new.
We’re talking period architecture with dramatic contemporary interventions, and gilt-framed paintings presiding over luxe modern furniture. The suites offer essentially all you’d want from a Roman luxury hotel, right down to the whirlpool baths, and there’s one apartment for larger parties — or parties with larger needs — which earns its residential designation with a full kitchen and separate living room.
There’s not much else, which is perhaps bad news for high-maintenance types, but eminently reasonable for old Rome hands. There’s enough to see and do in this city — and enough to eat — that there’s no time for treadmills anyway, and likely no mealtimes unaccounted for. For a grand hotel you’ll have to look elsewhere, but for a pied-à-terre, you’re in the right place.
Please note: Gigli d'Oro Suite requires a two night minimum over the weekends.

What I liked:
this is a great way to stay in Rome--great location, no frills and very comfortable. If you do not need a gym, spa, or concierge why pay for them? Actually the very nice person who checked us in, rebooked our dinner at a restaurant he recommended which was terrific. So you still get the personal concierge service.
