Midway down the southwestern arm of Italy’s sublime Lake Como is the town of Tremezzo — just one of many spectacular towns by the water, it’s as stunning as any of them, and is home to something rather impressive: the Grand Hotel Tremezzo Palace.

This is a grand hotel in every sense, having more in common with the stately palaces on Lake Geneva than with the trademark Italian villa hotel. Twelve acres of parkland surround the century-old building, and a hundred massed windows face out over the lake; every room overlooks either the park or the waters of Lake Como.

The interiors are elegant, leaning more toward an authentic and well-preserved tribute to the spirit of 1910, rather than the lavish set design of the much older Villa D’Este, down the road. The style is Liberty, the Italian variant of Art Nouveau, admitting a decided French influence as well as some English elements — unique indeed for a hotel in the heart of Lombardy.

Golf and tennis facilities are close at hand, and the Tremezzo offers no fewer than three outdoor pools, as well as a spa and fitness center, and access to the sporting possibilities of the lake. Three restaurants serve upscale Italian fare, two of them with breathtaking views of the water, and a cocktail bar and a wine bar serve as the centers of the hotel’s nightlife.

a very relaxing hotel

By ctse1478311 based in Hong Kong

Stayed May 2009

Overall rating: Good

I Liked

we were upgraded to a room with lake view which was really excellent. The breakfast was of very good quality and the restaurant had an open view to the lake. The reception staff were all very helpful, only that some were not very familiar with the ferry services. We tried the spa. The pool facilities were okay but it was small in general and did not have much variety. The setting and atmosphere of the massage room was only average. In general, the location of the hotel by the lake was excellent and the facilities and services were all of very high quality.

I Disliked

The hotel is located very far away from the Central Station in Como. We were advised to take a taxi by the hotel staff but we were charged doubled because the taxi driver said that he did not have a return journey and had to charge us for that. The webpage of the hotel should have more detailed information on the way to get there, especially for those taking the train from Milan. On the return journey, we took the fast ferry which was very convenient but you just need to know the way to the train.

Location, concierge and breakfast were great! The room was just OK, did not blow us away, but good. The view from the breakfast patio was excellent and the food was very good. Conveniently located across the lake from Bellagio which was great! The concierge was very helpful and pleasant to work with!

I Disliked

Did not dislike anything, just thought the room was OK.

Lake Como -- Grand Hotel Tremezzo

Overall rating: Excellent

I Liked

This hotel was enchanting. It far exceeded my expectations. The spa, the pools, the service, the onsite restaurants and the overall atmosphere were all wonderful. I had a superior lake view room and it the view was spectacular. I think the room itself was on the small side but everything was the highest quality. I would not only return to this hotel but I would highly recommend it to others.

I Disliked

Nothing.

The Grand Tremezzzo is the Jewell of the Lake Como Region. We arrived in by train from Milan and the hotel is easily accessable from Varenna by ferry. One does not need a car when staying at Grand Tremezzo. The ferry service is easily accessable from the hotel to visit the Italian Lake District. Excellent hotel. helpful friendly enthisiastic staff. Delicious fresh breakfasts served every morning overlooking lake.....

Perfect setting in the heart of Como.

I Liked

Tremezzo is in the center of Lake Como so when you arrive at Hotel Tremezzo you feel satisfied and take in the beautiful surroundings immediately. The view from the hotel is amazing as it sits right on the lake. Breakfasts were delicious with everything offered and more, and evening drinks were magical. We had a garden room which was lovely and big enough for the two of us and a 1 yr old in a cot. The garden view is lovely and looks toward the mountian and well established and manicured pool and garden area. We were upgraded at no cost to an even bigger room on the last night upon request. The lake side pool was not used as the weather was patchy although it looks tempting. Definitely one of the best hotels in the Lake Como area with everything on your doorstep.

I Disliked

we arrived very late so getting our luggage into the room took a little longer than normal. no big deal though as the first breakfast on the terrace with the view of Lake Como made up for it. Lots of older people frequent this hotel which is to be expected.

What is the Tablet Hotels Meter?

The Tablet Hotels Meter is a running average of the ratings given to a hotel by registered Tablet Hotels users who have actually stayed at the hotel. The scores are based on responses to our feedback survey, which is sent automatically to every user after the completion of a hotel stay booked through Tablet Hotels. We receive responses every day, the scores change accordingly - in real-time.

Tablet Hotels hotel ranking meter

This way we can be absolutely certain of the integrity of the rating process - on some travel websites, there is nothing preventing the General Manager from giving his own hotel a perfect score, or the concierge from across the street, posing as a dissatisfied guest, giving his competitor all zeros. You have probably seen questionable user reviews on other websites, whether flowery advertising copy written by fake guests, or vague negative attacks written anonymously. You will not see any of this on Tablet Hotels.

How does a hotel remain a Tablet Hotel?

We have selected nothing but the most unique and extraordinary properties from around the world, but circumstances at individual hotels can change quickly. Therefore it is up to our customers to inform us if one of our properties has taken a turn for the worse. The Tablet Hotels Meter works on a 20-point scale, and for a hotel to keep its place on Tablet Hotels, the magic number is 15.

This is not just an arbitrary figure; we have two years' worth of data, from past user feedback, and we have found that the hotels whose scores drop below 15 are those experiencing recurring problems, and guest detailed reports reflect the same serious concern, whether it be service, room quality, noise or something else.

The Tablet Hotels Meter will not display a score until we have had at least two customers rate the hotel. This way one person's unfortunate stay cannot carry too much weight. And once five guests have returned their verdicts, the rating becomes a more scientific measure of the opinion of the average guest. At this point, if the hotel's average overall score drops below 15, the hotel will be automatically removed from the site.

Your opinion really does count; in this case, it is the only thing keeping the hotels you visit on the site. On a more positive note, the hotels with top scores are featured in our "Tablet 10" lists. And as a side benefit, this system will encourage hotels to extend their best level of service to Tablet Hotels users - we turn every Tablet Hotels client into a reviewer!

Hotel Review and Travel Recommendation Guidelines

This is a moderated forum; all hotel reviews and travel recommendations must follow the Tablet Hotels and Tablet Talk guidelines below. We will not publish a hotel review or a travel recommendation unless it is:

Original

Please don't quote from other sources or otherwise reprint material published elsewhere, including your own comments on other travel review sites.

Relevant to other travelers

This is not a forum for general political, ethical or religious opinions. Nor is it a place for questions or comments directed to property representatives, Tablet Inc. staff, or other Tablet Talk members - we encourage you to use private channels for such communications. It should go without saying that we don't want to see personal insults or language that a reasonable observer might deem offensive. And please keep your submissions current - no need to mention a trip that happened more than two years ago.

A personal opinion or recommendation

Hotel reviews are restricted to verified guests who booked their stays through TabletHotels.com. Likewise, travel recommendations must be based on first-hand experience. No recommendations or reviews written by owners or managers posing as guests, or by current or past employees, or second-hand hearsay from others. If your friend/cousin/neighbor has something to contribute then you should invite them to join the community so that they may share their opinions themselves.

We do not allow recommendations to be written based on incentives from property owners/management. Offering discounts or upgrades or other special treatment in exchange for reviews is very much against the rules, and any property found to be engaging in this sort of thing will be dealt with most unforgivingly.

Non-commercial

Comment spam is a serious problem, and we will reject even the most borderline cases. No commercial web address, e-mail addresses or contact information. No promotional material of any kind. We reserve the right to reject any URL for any reason.

Written with standard e-mail etiquette

This is a forum with a broad readership; don't assume that hotel owners in Milan and travel agents in Guangzhou are familiar with the latest slang and shorthand, or that typographic symbols will be rendered properly across all platforms. Please don't shout in ALL CAPS - in general, keep it readable. And for various boring technical reasons, HTML tags and most forms of text and paragraph formatting, even simple lists, will not survive the posting process.

These reviews are posted exclusively by verified guests whose stays were booked through TabletHotels.com. We do encourage our clients to express their opinions, and what makes a hotel experience great is often something subjective, a matter of personal taste. At the same time, many of the hotels we list are extreme in one dimension or another, and are bound to disappoint somebody somewhere. These reviews are an excellent way to identify a hotel's particular quirks, and thereby avoid a poor hotel-guest match. But remember: if a hotel's overall customer rating falls lower than 15 out of 20, the hotel will be removed from our listings.

The opinions expressed in these reviews are solely those of our clients; the opinions expressed in any hotel management responses are solely those of the hotels themselves. We do not endorse any of the opinions expressed within the reviews, and we are not affiliated with any of the hotels in question.
