Some Parisian hotels aim to sweep guests up in the bustling romance of this great city. The Gabriel, by contrast, is for guests who can get quite enough bustling romance outside the hotel’s doors. It’s more like a pocket-sized spa resort than a city boutique, and the fact that it’s located a short walk from the Marais, which makes for a fair bit of street life, whether by day or by night.
A quiet room and a soothingly Zen sense of interior design both go a long way towards producing the desired restful reaction. There’s more, if you want it, from organic food (and organic bath products) to detox-themed spa treatments, from massages to Japanese-inspired Setai facials. But most of us will find the mix of high style and luxe comfort to produce all the relaxation we could ask for.
As is customary in Paris, the Gabriel can afford to opt out of certain services which the city at large is only too happy to provide — which is the long way of saying there’s no restaurant because there’s no need for one. This hotel offers a stylish respite from the life of the city, not a full-immersion twenty-four-hour experience. The contrast is the whole point — take part in the bustle by day, and unplug and detox by night.

What I liked:
It's really very well located for a short weekend break. Great access to public transport and a short walk to Les Marais. Rooms are clean and simple, with a touch of modern boutique hotel feeling. It delivers more than a 3 stars hotel does, in terms of experience and comfort.
What the hotel could do better:
Have a strong WIFI service which actually works. I had no WIFI during the weekend in my bedroom (103) and had to go to the lobby for a signal. The WIFI in the lobby itself only worked on Monday. There wasn't a WIFI service in the hotel during the weekend at all. The front desk staff didn't know how to fix it and couldn't have a technician come until Monday. Not good for a hotel in the middle of Paris in 2013. The minibar refrigerator didn't work in my room. and couldn't be fixed either.

What I liked:
Staff was great. Rooms were big by Paris standards, modern, efficient and clean. Breakfast included and until 11AM.
It was near 2 metro stops, a grocery store, wine shop, bread store, florist, bakery and a fabulous restaurant. All within 2 blocks.
