Hamadryade Lodge
Via Misahualli, km. 11, Tena
Misahualli, Napo, Ecuador
Style: Modern Design
Atmosphere: Secluded
5 Rooms
Like the mythological wood nymph who lends her name to this remarkable Amazonian eco-resort, Hamadryade Lodge is inextricably tied to its surroundings. Owners Melanie and Sebastian Cazaudehore were determined to help revitalize their 64-hectare property overlooking the Napo River, scarred from the remnants of an abandoned gold mine. Hamadryade was designed to aid rather than hinder the area’s ecological healing process.
It’s as stylish as it is green — the four bungalows that comprise the living area are spacious and modern, with a bit of beachfront flair. Sheltered porches and wide doorways enhance airflow — not an unimportant consideration in a rainforest climate. Traditional toquilla roofs and interior decorations that reference the local communities provide a unique complement to the stark black and white furniture.
Hamadryade prides itself on fostering responsible tourism, and offers several guided excursions into the rainforest with the ultimate goal of introducing visitors to the rich local history. However, it’s also a high-end resort, and for those guests who simply want to chill out in Amazonian splendor, there are plenty of opportunities for pampering or sumptuous relaxation. The bungalows’ spacious showers feature natural stones for a private, soothing experience, and for those requiring deeper relaxation, there’s an on-site massage hut. After a long day spent rafting or exploring nearby caves and waterfalls, the lodge’s three-course candlelight dinner feels like fine dining in the middle of the world’s most famous jungle.
