Hansar Hotel Bangkok

3 Soi Mahadlekluang 2, Rajdamri Road, Lumpini, Pathumwan

Bangkok, Thailand

Style: Modern Design

Atmosphere: Lively

94 Rooms

Luxury hotel designers in southeast Asia have a thing for imposing towers. From a basic architectural standpoint, Hansar Hotel Bangkok is no different, looming over a tony section of Rajdamri Road. But taking into account the comparatively low-slung glass-and-steel frontispiece, it’s clear that Hansar Hotel has a different mission than simply being grand for grandeur’s sake. The entrance sets the tone, with a pair of oversized glass doors leading to a high-ceilinged lobby where sparkling clean lines are softened by plenty of rich wood and a vibrant tapestry.

The effect is soothing, but laden with enough contemporary edge to set Hansar apart from its more conservative luxury neighbors. Modern amenities are standard throughout the 94 guest rooms, but the iPod docks, flatscreen TVs and free Wi-Fi pale in comparison to perks like a complimentary mini-bar (still always a pleasant surprise). At Hansar, this willingness to do things a bit differently was incorporated from the ground up — stay in one of the Vertigo suites and you’ll experience the unique view of Bangkok provided by the cantilevered bedroom.

The restaurants make good use of the glass-walled openness that characterizes the public space. Eve offers classic Provençal cuisine paired with wines from Burgundy and Bordeaux in a dining room full of quirky high-backed chairs. Café Boca serves up lighter fare, while Vue extends the concept of an upscale lobby bar into an outdoor cocktail lounge. All this, and you’re still only a minute from the BTS Skytrain — as painful as it may be to leave.
