We know what you're thinking, and you're right — a Hilton hotel had better be something special to be included in our listings. You're right, of course, and we are happy to say that this particular Hilton hotel is indeed something a bit out of the ordinary.
First, the profile: the Auckland Hilton resembles nothing so much as a giant cruise ship, a long and low white structure out at the end of Prince's Wharf, surrounded by the waters of Waitemata Harbor. The illusion is particularly striking as cruise ships pull up to dock alongside the hotel, and the meeting rooms fill up with passengers arriving and departing.
Guest rooms are crisp, modern and sophisticated, with clean lines and sleek minimal furniture. All the modern amenities are present, including high-speed internet access and exquisitely functional bathrooms. Views tend toward the dramatic, with full-length windows and private terraces opening onto the bay, and in the corner rooms, two full walls of glass.
So it's a chain hotel with a boutique feel, the letterhead on the desks the only clue that these stylish rooms bear the Hilton name. The restaurant, the appropriately named White, serves the finest of local seafood with yet another dramatic view of the bay, and many of the rest of Auckland's bars and restaurants are within easy reach. Despite what the travel magazines would have you believe, New Zealand isn't all lodge living and Hobbit landscapes — Auckland is a vibrant modern city this is a chic and modern city hotel.

What I liked:
The location on a wharf is definitely different from your average Hilton Hotel, and it is a little offputting when you pull up in a cab for the first time. But be patient. The breakfast room has a terrace that overlooks the harbor with a view that is nothing less than spectacular. I got an upgrade, even though Hilton doesn't honor my TabletPlus membership, and the room also had water views and a terrace with a table and chairs.
The swimming pool is not much more than a lap pool, but it's on the 4th floor, and as the webpage shows, there's a glass wall at the far end that overlooks the harbor. Wow. The gym is serviceable, if small.
It turns out it is not as hard to get into town as you thought when you first arrived. A quick walk back down the wharf gets you right into the middle of the waterfront.
Free Wifi in the public areas is most welcome.
What the hotel could do better:
It took all day for them to get me into my room, which is a little rough when you are flying 16 hours from North America and land at 6.30am. They would be well advised to have a "welcome package" and proceedure in place for people like this. A bottle of water, walk you up to the breakfast room, access to showers in the spa, and a list of recommended activities while you are waiting for the room to be ready.

What I liked:
location was great! right next to the ferry terminal, easy access from the airport, restaurants around.
What the hotel could do better:
Nothing, the hotel is a business hotel, thus design is sterile and proper.

What the hotel could do better:
First of all, NO FREE WIFI. And they demanded a ridicoloys 120 NZ dollars for EACH device connected. Me and my partner had six devices (2xiPhones, 2xiPads, 2xMacBooks) and they wanted 6x120 dollars for ONE week. Secondly, they charged 100% extra over Christmas and NY for laundry -- that's over and above the 100% extra for weekends. We did some laundry and it costed us over 700 NZ dollars. RIDICULOUS.
