By some measures, it’s the busiest hotel town in America, but San Francisco has resisted the full-scale boutique-hotel invasion seen in places like New York and Los Angeles. There are, however, quite a few independent hotels looking to change that — and one of the likeliest contenders, in the heart of the theater district and just off Union Square, is the Hotel Adagio.
A recent, seven-million-dollar top-to-bottom renovation has left it feeling more than current; though the building may remain an antique landmark, its rooms are among San Francisco’s more modern, with more natural light than you’d expect in this foggy town. You’ll find all the mod-boutique trappings: at very least, 32-inch LCD HDTVs, iPod-docking stations, and updated, luxurious bathrooms. The Mortimer, a cocktail lounge off the lobby, and an airy farm-to-table restaurant called The Green Room ensure that the hotel’s public spaces are just as inviting.
Views are at a bit of a premium, and the neighborhood borders on one that’s rather more unfinished, to put it politely. But to the north is the tony Nob Hill, and to the east, the shops at Union Square, making this one of the city’s most desirable locations, and a car service connects you quickly with the financial district.

What I liked:
Modern furniture, comfortable lobby, and a nice bar. Location is excellent, with good parking options and a valet if you prefer.
What the hotel could do better:
It's a boutique hotel with a brand new, albeit cost conscious, renovation, and is well-priced accordingly. Don't expect Four Seasons or St Regis level of finishing , and you won't be disappointed. Overall a very nice place to stay near Union Sq.
