Hotel Caesar Augustus
Via G. Orlandi 4, Anacapri
Capri, Italy
Style: Contemporary Classic
Atmosphere: Secluded
58 Rooms
Please note: Caesar Augustus is currently closed for the winter season and will reopen April 21, 2010.
Enough has been written about the star-studded resorts on the island of Capri to fill a thousand magazines—and still there’s a side to the island that is unfamiliar to the boatloads of jaded tourists ferried in for the day, and the paparazzi-posing celebrities who check in at the Quisisana. Anacapri is the hilltop village, towering above the sea, and it’s not only in the literal sense that it is above it all: this is where the crowd-shy traveler checks in, to escape from industrialized tourism.
The views are the main attraction at the Caesar Augustus Hotel; one imagines that Caesar himself would not settle for a cliffside hotel any less than a thousand feet above the Bay of Naples. The “infinity pool” is by now a familiar concept, but from this high perch it regains much of its novelty, and it’s easy to feel as tall as Mount Vesuvius from here.
Despite the name, this is no crumbling historical site—the hotel has been completely renovated, and the bathrooms, in particular, are large, bright and modern. Rooms are decorated in a classic style, though light and airy rather than weighted with antiques, and the amenities are positively 21st-century; not that you’ll notice, as the views from the private balconies overshadow any interior design. The restaurant, inevitably, is on a terrace overlooking the bay as well—this hotel knows its strength, and sticks to it. To be wholeheartedly recommended to all those unafraid of heights.

I loved this hotel. If you are looking for quiet and peaceful retreats this is your hotel. The view is insane. The staff was nice. We also received an upgrade to a Jr. Suite which made our stay even better - Tablet really helped out as there were couples that paid way way more through the hotel directly.
What the hotel could do better
The only thing I didn't like was the inability to use the shuttle service from the hotel to capri - tried 2xs and the front desk advised me on both occasions it wasn't running when I wanted to go.

It's all about the view at the Ceasar Augustus. The pool is included in the experience and also has a fabulous view. The view and pool compensate for the lack of other positive attributes. The location is convient to shops and restaurants in Anacapri.
What the hotel could do better
The staff is moderately trained at best. Lack of attention to detail is pervasive even with the cleaning staff. The restaurant is sub par, even for breakfast. The lack of a gym or spa is also a negative.
This hotel has the physical gifts to make it one of the most compelling hotels in the world......but the attention to detail, staff, gym/spa and restauant need to be addressed before that will happen.

Sensational location - the view from the terrace is what grabs everybody. Its the first place that the receptionist takes you on the little tour they like to give. Everywhere is clean and comfortable. Great pool area and the adjacent restaurant has terriiffic food with daily pasta specials and probably the best view from any restaurant on the Island.
What the hotel could do better
The fabulous view also puts uou in Ana capri which isnt that great for entertainment or food. Only really good restaurant is the uber stuffy and slow L'Olivio at Capri Palace, so its a taxi to Capri Town (unless you want to play sardines on the regular bus route)

These reviews are posted exclusively by verified guests whose stays were booked through TabletHotels.com. We do encourage our clients to express their opinions, and what makes a hotel experience great is often something subjective, a matter of personal taste. At the same time, many of the hotels we list are extreme in one dimension or another, and are bound to disappoint somebody somewhere. These reviews are an excellent way to identify a hotel's particular quirks, and thereby avoid a poor hotel-guest match. But remember: if a hotel's overall customer rating falls lower than 15 out of 20, the hotel will be removed from our listings.
