Consider it a “business boutique,” for lack of a better phrase. The Hotel Charleston dates back to the 1980s, which means it anticipated by some years the boutique hotel boom. And yet with its modest size (64 rooms) and its emphasis on style and design, a boutique hotel it most certainly is.
The audience, though, skews a bit toward the business-oriented, which makes some difference to the Charleston’s atmosphere. Distinctions between business and leisure guests are to some extent artificial, but there’s a sense here that there’s more going on than just a cocktail-bar scene. Business clearly doesn’t mean boredom, though, at least in Bogotá — the rooms are stylish, minimalist yet never dull, and the restaurant and bar are lively and well-designed.
In terms of services and amenities the Charleston is up there with more traditional luxury hotels. There’s wi-fi everywhere, and iPod docking stereos in the rooms. Space is plentiful, and the suites are particularly expansive. And if the look is a bit on the sober side, it’s no less attractive for it, in cool-toned neutrals and dark wood. There’s plenty of meeting space, if you need it, and the location couldn’t get much better — here in the northern zone the financial and commercial destinations are close at hand.

What I liked:
The service was excellent. The staff were polite and helpful and the breakfast was beautifully presented and delicious.
What the hotel could do better:
I would have liked an additional bathmat for in front of the sinks, there was only one for in front of the shower. Also the shower doesn't have a door which is fine except the water would leek out and make the floor outside really wet, maybe they could fix that. But it was an excellent hotel overall, we were very pleased and will stay there again

What I liked:
The rooms are fantastic. Just absolutely beautiful.
What the hotel could do better:
unfortunately, if someone is in the bathroom and another is sleeping in bed, there is no way of isolating the sound and noise from the bathroom.
Also, they could add a public space in the other lobby for drinks as the bar area becomes very nosiy.

What I liked:
Spacious rooms - we upgraded to a suite as we have 2 small children and were staying for 6 nights. Rooms were very spacious including a sitting area, 2 tvs, table with 4 chairs for take-out, etc., desk, large bathroom
Beds were very comfortable.
Service was very nice - all front desk employees spoke English well and helped with all our questions. They can arrange cars, taxis, make reservations, etc.
VERY Clean rooms - great housekeeping staff
Windows open for fresh air - very nice!
Breakfast was included and was very nice - fresh juice was especially nice & my family enjoyed all the fresh bread/pastries
Internet was very fast and included.
Very safe and clean neighborhood.
What the hotel could do better:
Offer suites with 2 queen beds. The only option for a suite was a King bed and roll-away bed which worked OK for our small children but was not as comfortable as if we had 2 beds.
Requests made via Tablet for our stay at the hotel (restaurant reservations, bike rentals, etc.) were not responded to very quickly (not a fault of Tablet) and some not at all. As noted, however, upon arrival all of the women at the front desk were very helpful.
