Once four separate buildings dating back as far as the fourteenth century, Cour des Loges is now a single hotel, and a masterful example of modern design meeting old-world charm. Jean-Louis and Jocelyne Sibuet have updated the Italian (yes, Italian) Renaissance style of the original dwellings with contemporary flourishes, and the result is a truly special place. The courtyard alone, doubling as lobby and ringed with arched walkways, is well worth the price of admission. Winding stone staircases and multi-level arcades join the buildings into one labyrinthine complex.

Antique hand-carved headboards and Philippe Starck-designed bathroom fixtures come together in the eclectic Cour des Loges style. Each room is unique, and intricately decorated, with fine fabrics and modern, high-design furniture meeting Tuscan antiques and period-influenced artwork. Parquet floors, antique armoires, beam ceilings, and a palette of deep burgundy reds and cool blues lend to the rich Renaissance atmosphere. Some rooms include fireplaces, gardens, and the duplex suites feature murals depicting historical scenes. Modern conveniences abound as well, including an indoor pool and sauna.

The hotel comes with two restaurants, Les Loges and Café-Epicerie, under the supervision of chef Anthony Bonnet. Beyond that you may be forced to venture outside the hotel and sample the local cuisine — this is, after all, Lyon, and it can be argued that some of the finest food in the world is to be found here.

Cour des Loges is an amazing hotel, a piece of Renaissance history compellingly updated with modern hotel design and service. Such a remarkable setting would be reason enough to visit, but when combined with modern luxury hotel service (including the region’s top concierge) and Lyon’s gastronomic delights, it may prove impossible to resist.

Kids:

Guests over the age of 5 are considered adults. Some rooms accommodate 3 or more. The "CLASSIC" room sleeps up to 4 guests. For crib/cot, must book "CLASSIC" room or larger. For 2 adults + rollaway bed, must book "SUPERIOR" or larger. For 2 adults + 2 kids beyond crib age, must book "SUITE" room or larger.

Cribs are available for an additional fee of €23. Roll-away beds available for an additional fee of €40. Extra charge in addition to crib/roll-away cost id €12

Fenced in pool available that allows kids. Babysitting services provided by screened outside help at €8 per hour. The restaurant is kid-friendly with high chairs. Room service offers a kids menu.

Very special design/historic building, good location

What the hotel could do better

We had the smallest room (petit mezzanine) and while it was a very special if not to say unique room, it was also very dark - like a cell, and the air quality was poor. Otherwise everything was perfect!

    The building

What the hotel could do better

The photos are very promising however this fantastic building has been ruined by a terrible interior designer, completely out of context, the rooms designed with no feeling at all for practical use. On top of that it is symply over priced, even the breakfast! I stayed a few days later for less money in l"Anglettere in Geneva, there you could see how to furnish and run a hotel!

The 14th Century building restored into a hotel gave it an amazing ambiance. All the details made it a pleasure to stay and being centrally located in the old town, made it accessible by foot through all the alleyways, court yards, squares and the funicular...

spa area was quaint as well - and the roof top terrace to unwind after a long tourist walking session was delightful.

What the hotel could do better

Rooms aren't huge, but was cosy - and no provisions for food/drinks on the terrace - bu managed to buy fresh berries and local wine at the market, and made the most of the sunshine and roof terrace.

The decor and ambiance was fantastic. Well worth the price. The night life o\around the hotel in the old city added to the romantic mood.

What the hotel could do better

Was not easy to find, but this is the price you pay for being a historic building in the oldest part of Lyon. Don't pay for a breakfast, enjoy something from the street cafes.
