In northwestern Provence, 25 miles from Avignon, is the medieval hilltop village of Crillon le Brave. The hotel itself is a cluster of stone buildings, centuries old, looking down on the village's rooftops and beyond, at the vineyards and orchards of the valley below. The terraces and gardens are perfect for taking in the wide-ranging view of the countryside and Mount Ventoux.
The hotel's 31 rooms and suites have been recently renovated, brightened by ochre walls and vibrant Provencal fabrics. Most have similar breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, and all feel intimate and secluded, owing to the hillside villa layout. Le Restaurant serves dinner in a 16th-century building, once the village school, and in the summertime features open-air dining on the terraces with views of the vineyards.
Crillon le Brave's appeal is simple: this is a beautiful hotel in a beautiful countryside. There is plenty to see in Provence, from medieval and Roman ruins to village markets, bike paths and walking trails, and of course acres and acres of vineyards. In the winter Mount Ventoux is capped with snow, and even in the summer, the view from the pool is spectacular.
How to get there:
Hotel Crillon le Brave is approximately a 45 minute drive from Avignon Airport, 1 1/4 hours from Marseille Provence Airport and 1 hour from Nimes Airport.
