Boutique hotels that can accommodate a traveler on business, a couple on a romantic get-away or an adventurous family are somewhat rare, but the Hotel Meninas has somehow pulled this all together under one very hip roof. It’s the quintessential Madrid hotel: a repurposed nineteenth-century apartment building that offers boho-chic style combined with that warm and welcoming atmosphere that Spain’s culture is famous for around the world.

The Meninas is so centrally located that it’s virtually at the steps of the Palacio Real, yet smartly tucked away (between the busy Calle de Bailén and Calle Gran Villa) on a quaint neighborhood street. Guests will get feel like authentic Madrilenians as they walk a block or two from countless museums, the opera, clubs and stylish dining and then escape from the never ending pulse of Madrid day and night-life down Meninas’s quiet street. And although moderately sized at thirty-seven rooms, the variety available is remarkable, from single rooms all the way to family-size quadruple rooms, all loaded with plasma TVs, free internet and individually tailored décor.

Guests celebrating an event or business travelers in need of a meeting space will find the five available lounges modish — and they can double nicely as private dining areas, whether for work or pleasure. During the day the top-floor gym and sauna offer a glimpse at one of the best views of the Madrid skyline. Then by nightfall, enjoy the Madrid starlight with a cocktail or espresso under the vaulted crystal ceiling of the in-hotel Café Meninas.
