Sunlight and privacy — these are the twin motivations behind Omm's unique facade, a slab of light stone with rectangular sections peeled back like the pages of a book, revealing the guest room windows underneath. The white slab reflects the strong Catalan sun into the room, while blocking the view of passing pedestrians and absorbing a good deal of the street noise as well. And another white slab, this time lacquered aluminum, floats in the middle of the room, dividing the bathroom area from the sleeping space, but letting that precious sunshine stream over the bath and sink.
Barcelona has always been serious about architecture and design, but even here, Omm stands out. Less whimsical or hedonistic than many of the best Spanish spaces, this hotel has a pronounced minimalist streak and even, if we may indulge in a well-worn image, a touch of Zen. Maybe it's just all the blond wood, but it's easy to imagine waking up here and mistaking it, for a moment, for Scandinavia in the summertime.
Of course when you realize that it is nearing three o'clock, and only now are your fellow travelers making their way downstairs for lunch, it will hit you that this is unmistakably Barcelona.
Long and loose siesta-friendly hours are not the only strength of Omm's restaurant, itself called Moo; the hotel's proprietors were restaurateurs first, and it's obvious that Moo is no afterthought. It is no less an impressive space than the rest of the hotel, looking out into a courtyard forest of bamboo and, oddly, aluminum; but the menu holds its own, with some of Barcelona's finest food served in half-portions (and wines by the glass), to encourage mixing and matching.
Facilities include a spa and health club and a rooftop indoor/outdoor pool — the deckside lounge and its plush white armchairs boast a commanding view of the town's spiny architecture. Front-facing rooms catch sunlight through the open “pages” of the facade, but the rear-facing rooms and suites are quieter, away from the street, and have their own private terraces.

What I liked:
The Hotel Omm is a magical destination of 21st century design and modernity, neighborhood community center and music speak easy. It's Michelin rated Moo Restaurant may get the headlines but everything about our 5 night stay at the Omm was top shelf. Having been to Barcelona on multiple occasions and reading some of the reviews I was a bit nervous about the room size. The 'basic' room option was generous in terms of size. The design of the room with its HD projector TV, panel of buttons for room controls, closet space and shower were all well thought through. (The only poor design is the wash basin's location and distance from the toilet closet). The staff was very accommodating and generous. Requests by some in our party to shift rooms during 'disco weekend' were gracious and quickly responded to. Breakfast and coffee, happy hour drinks, and of course meals were all very very good. The location of Omm is, in my view, among its biggest pluses. It is located in the heart of the late 19th and early 20th century modernist district. Not only a stone's throw away from Gaudi master piece architecture but equally intriguing neighborhood designers, urban landscaping and the like. The Omm is less than 30 min walk to the Catherdal and Bron districts on the south side of the city. It is easily serviced by both public transportation and of course taxis and the like. The staff also made multiple excellent recommendations for dinner spots in the neighborhood. On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night, Catalan folks singers, poets brought locals in off the street. Later in the evening, starting around 11:30 over the weekend, Omm transormed into a very very hip destination with security guards, techno-beat music, and over flowing bar scene. We would return in a heart beat

What I liked:
Location. Design. Restaurant Moo.
What the hotel could do better:
Air ventilation, noise level on the weekend from the bar area until after 2 am made sleeping nearly impossible (required us to move rooms), room service food quality was... just ok.

What I liked:
Room and location were outstanding. Twice-a-day room tidying was much appreciated.
What the hotel could do better:
Breakfast was prohibitively expensive.
Front desk folks were useless, couldn't be bothered.
