It’s proof that you don’t have to be in Rome or Milan to find a hotel that’s this immaculately composed. While elsewhere in Sicily the hotels trade on a rustic or exotic atmosphere, the Palazzo Sitano is pure, urbane bella figura, with a crisp, clean-lined look that feels almost shockingly sophisticated — especially in contrast with the location, a few streets from the harbor in the heart of old Palermo, a neighborhood for which “sophisticated” is not at all the first adjective that comes to mind.
It’s from this contrast that the Palazzo Sitano derives the greatest share of its personality. This is, in essence, a well-put-together international-standard business hotel, albeit one in a setting where it’s not at all the expected thing. In fact it’s hard to reconcile the picturesquely weathered facade with the hotel that lies within — this 300-year-old palace wasn’t just given a thorough interior-design makeover, but an architectural one as well, and the adaptation results in a hotel that’s quite a bit more interesting than the standard corridor-centric business hotel. Business travelers, of course, will appreciate the cool formality of the room interiors, not to mention the up-to-date comforts; and leisure travelers, in the midst of a ramble around Sicily, will appreciate the calm confidence of a thoroughly contemporary lodging.

What I liked:
The front desk staff is amazing. They had legit restaurant recommendations at totally non-tourist spots, and they really made our stay in Palermo memorable!
