Not to be confused with the delicate old-world Pulitzer in Amsterdam, this Pulitzer is as modern as they come, fitting effortlessly into Barcelona’s already expansive cohort of high-design hipster hotels. It’s a 2004 renovation of a Twenties building, and its carefully preserved facade offers little hint of the striking Art Deco-influenced spaces within — again, in true Barcelona style.
Where it departs slightly from the standard set by its peers is in its embrace of conspicuous luxury. The Pulitzer is unashamedly upscale, the public spaces festooned with deep leather sofas, lacquered bookshelves lined with books, and a collection of contemporary and antique artworks; bold and clean it is, but minimal it certainly isn’t.
Upstairs the rooms carry on in the same key; more leather, more rich dark wood, more top-quality furnishings, and upmarket musts like plasma televisions and free wireless internet. Bathrooms, the true measure of any hotel’s luxury quotient, are suitably decadent, tiled in grey stone, stocked with own-brand bath products and custom robes and slippers.
The restaurant and bar are fine ones, strong contenders in a town that’s already quite full of excellent restaurants and bars; the spaces are luxe and stylish, and the roof terrace is a genuine treat, ideal for a sunset cocktail. But you don’t come to Barcelona to shut yourself up in your hotel — the Pulitzer’s location, just off Plaza Catalunya and Las Ramblas, is at the heart of the city, placing all the best of Barcelona at your feet.

Pulitzer Barcelona review
Stayed June 2008
I Liked
I like about the hotel it's central location close to old town and shopping areaI Disliked
Apathetic front desk clerk without any energy or smile. Lobby is prettending to look nice - fancy and modern, but it is just a warehouse of furniture of various stiles and colors. There is no atmosphere in the hotel. Rooms are extremelly small and with cold atmosphere.10 user(s) found this review helpful.

From the moment the taxi pulled up to the hotel to my check-out I was in love with this hotel. Clean, stylish and understated - it was exactly what I hoped it would be. The staff was impeccable! The rooms lovely and the service pristine. I can't say enough how much staying at The Pulitzer enhanced my visit to Barcelona. Ideal location, quiet street and an inviting lobby bar. I will definitely stay at The Pulitzer the next time I'm in Barcelona.I Disliked
My expectations were not let down so I don't really have anything to dislike about the hotel.881 user(s) found this review helpful.

Public Facilities: The bar downstairs has a lovely atmosphere; really relaxed and perfect for a drink before you go out to dinner. There is also free wireless internet so it is great to sit downstairs, have a coffee and research before heading out to sightsee. Location: The location of the pulizter was also perfect for sightseeing. Right in between the eixample and gothic quarter region. You can walk everywhere. The street is is on is also nice and quiet, unlike many of the other hotels which can be quite noisy. Service: The service was friendly and professional. On the second last day my finance got really sick, and we asked to leave early. They were incredibly kind and did not charge us a cancellation fee. This was the nicest part to our experience in the hotel.I Disliked
Gym: They claimed they have gym facilities, but this is a gym that is a 10 minute walk from hotel, and is an independent gym. The plus side however is that the gym was a proper gym, not a small hotel gym with one treadmill. The frustrating part is the so called 5 minute walk, especially when you are not sure where you are going. Rooms: Our first room was aweful, the view was of a plastic roof and the back of a brick building. I went to have a shower and the water was cold!! We asked to move rooms, and finally I was able to have a hot shower. The rooms themselves are fine, but cheaply produced. So there are a lot of scuffs and marks on the furniture which makes it look old and dated. They claim the latest in technology like flat screen TV's, but these are the smallest TV's I have ever seen. The channel options were also limited, and no movies available. Either way with a screen so small & minimal channel options, there is no point in watching the TV. Finally they gave us twin beds pushed together in both rooms, which was not great for my fiance and I. They did not make the bed as a double either, so we were literally separated. I will say however the size of the rooms are decent. I read that many people stated that the rooms were tiny, comparatively I would say for a european hotel the standard room was a very decent size.1146 user(s) found this review helpful.

Excellent location near the Placa Cataluna. Beautiful bar and lounge area. Excellent Housekeeping.I Disliked
We stayed at the Pulitzer at the beginning of March. Our standard room was very small and way too hot. We were unable to change the room's thermostat and we brought the heat issue to the management's attention. We were told they would adjust the central thermostat. The room remained hot for the three nights we were there and we slept with the windows opened - very noisy.1405 user(s) found this review helpful.
