The smart and stylish Pulitzer Roma occupies a 20th-century modernist building in the EUR district, the Fascist-era exposition center, now a business park and residential area just south of the city center. And what it lacks in picture-postcard historical charm it makes up for in personality — this is not the Rome of the Spanish Steps or the Colosseum, but the modern face of the vibrant capital of modern Italy.

The glossy black-and-white décor is reminiscent of Art Deco, but is decorated with Italian artworks from the Seventies rather than the Thirties. The look is a bit groovier, a bit spacier, but the monochrome scheme keeps it sober and composed.

Business-boutique amenities like LCD televisions and wireless internet are standard, and the bathrooms are striking in black ceramic tile. There’s a fitness area, and ample meeting space — with a location like this the Pulitzer undeniably aims to capture a portion of the business-travel market. With that in mind, the VISIT restaurant and cocktail bar tend toward the minimal — if it’s nightlife you’re after you’ll be better served closer to the city center.
