If the presence, for a time, of the world’s tallest building wasn’t quite enough to cement Taipei’s world-capital bona fides, then the Hotel Quote should do it. Perhaps we exaggerate, but only a little — though it’s not as noticeable as a 101-story office tower, the presence of a first-rate high-design boutique hotel is a necessary condition for a city’s becoming truly cosmopolitan.
The Quote makes it look easy. Interiors are contemporary and minimalist, but they’re not futuristic or cold. It’s a look that’s decidedly Asian, but modern, not at all kitschy or overwrought. The colors are rich, slightly retro, the textures distinctive in metal and wood, and the rooms come stocked with all today’s luxury-boutique must-haves: Nespresso machines, entertainment centers, and Toto washlets, a detail we’re happy to see spreading beyond Tokyo’s big luxury hotels.
At times the Quote borders on self-consciousness. The room types are named Q, U, O, T and E — hardly less descriptive than the usual Superior, Deluxe et al., but probably a bit too cute. Still, a hotel of the Quote’s quality has every right to feel sure of itself; we’ll happily put up with some heavy-handed branding when the actual product is such a strong one.

What I liked:
The ambience provided a soothing respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. I was particularly impressed by the sophisticated decor and impeccable, personalized service. Even though my friend and I troubled them everyday to research for eating places, they seemed more than happy to help us. The complimentary food in the lounge makes one feel like an important and treasured guest. Being a coffee lover, I was very pleased to have the nespresso machine in the room. After a long day of sightseeing and shopping, we really looked forward to return to our stylish room, and we never failed to enjoy a good rest every night. A pity that the hotel lacks a gym and a pool, or it will be a perfect choice for me. I wil definitely return to Hotel Quote for my next visit to Taipei!
