As the first hotel to open its doors in Harvard Square in over two decades, the pressure to offer ultra-modern high luxury must have been hard to resist. Luckily Veritas opted for the boutique route, a rambling Victorian townhouse that’s stately enough to look like it’s been part of the neighborhood for a century, even though it was completed in 2010. Inside, the charm of a New England residence is enhanced by a commitment to style, with a staff that’s entirely decked out in Brooks Brothers. This might have something to do with the proximity to a certain Ivy League institution — Veritas is, of course, Harvard’s motto — but it never feels pretentious or exclusionary.
There are 31 rooms, and except for a few larger suites, these hold steady at about two hundred square feet. The coziness actually adds to the atmosphere; rather than feeling cramped, the iridescent patterned wallpaper and antique mirrors create a light, Art Deco-inspired sense of space. If you do require more elbow room, one of the parlor suites should do nicely — or simply request a room with a private balcony.
Hotel Veritas places a premium on undisturbed solitude, but when it comes time to socialize, they’ve got it covered. The Simple Truth lounge is a well-appointed living room complete with a Belgian limestone fireplace and long, curved sofas. The lounge serves handcrafted local beers and artisanal cheese — for a more extensive menu, you’ll have to do a bit of exploring. Thankfully, finding the perfect restaurant in Cambridge doesn’t require a Harvard education.

What I liked:
The hotel was cozy and comfortable. It was few minutes walk to Harvard Square. My business trip was difficult; the hotel was a quiet and peaceful place to return to at the day's end.
What the hotel could do better:
The room was smallish which I knew when I made the reservation. I found it cozy although it might be too cozy for two people for more then a night or two.
