Berlin’s top hotels tend to be grand hotels, stately old palaces with hundreds of rooms—so the Brandenburger Hof cuts a bit against the grain. From the outside, this fin-de-siècle mansion could pass as a smaller, more intimate cousin to places like the Adlon; but the elegant facade conceals some of Berlin’s most modern hotel interiors, particularly the guest rooms themselves, decked out in a sort of Bauhaus-minimalist hybrid.
The public spaces are equally a study in period and cultural contrasts, from the Doric columns of the lobby, to the Michelin-starred French restaurant with its Frank Lloyd Wright chairs, and the delightful Wintergarten, a sort of Renaissance Zen conservatory. Meetings and conferences take place in elegant salons, seemingly throwbacks to a century ago, save for the modern touches like soundproofing, internet connections, and voice conferencing systems.
Guest rooms feature platform beds and heated floors, with chrome-and-leather furniture by the likes of Mies and le Corbusier alongside Japanese flower arrangements and historic stucco work. Service is phenomenal, intimate yet professional, and the Brandenburger Hof rivals some of its bigger competition with a cigar lounge, a piano bar, a library with a view of the wine cellar, and Asian-themed spa treatments, from massages to seaweed wraps, courtesy of beautician Ellen Brüder.
This is one modestly-sized boutique that can hold its own in comparison with the big boys; if you need bleeding-edge design or pure old-fashioned glamor, you can find that elsewhere—the Brandenburger Hof is a hotel with a personality all its own, and a quiet charm that brings guests back again and again.

Our stay at the Brandenburger Hof, Berlin
by Yves from Mechelen
Stayed May 2008
Overall rating: Excellent
I Liked
It's a beautiful, rather small hotel, with a marvelous inside garden, located in a quiet street. Staff is extremely friendly and attenive. It doesn't have the typical hotel atmosphere; in fact, one immediately feels 'at home' here.
It was my second stay at the Brandenburger Hof, the first time was about 4 years ago. I adored it the first time, and that's why I decided to return.
And I guess that we were lucky: I booked a demi-suite, but we got a genuine suite! Many thanks, it made our stay even more pleasant.
It's definitely not cheap, but it's worth it!
I Disliked
'Dislike' is probably an overstatement, but the service at the 'Quadriga' restaurant was a bit 'amateuristic'. They should pay attention to that: we would not want them to loose their Michelin star bacause of that; the food is still delicious.

Overall rating: Excellent
I Liked
This was one of the loveliest hotels I have ever stayed at. The staff were delightful - charming - eager to please without fawning. The room - a demi-suite - was perfectly comfortable. An elegant mix of simplicity, style and luxury.
I also want to comment on the spectacular lighting, especially in the bathroom.I Disliked
Absolutely nothing!

Hotel Brandenburger Hof
by Roni from Tel-aviv
Stayed April 2008
I Liked
The rooms are nice, the location is good. I Disliked
it is not a 5 star hotel! there is no Internet service in the rooms (there is a very expensive wireless service that didn't work and no public computer in the lobby)
In my stay i needed to talk to the the general manager and she refused to talk to me again and again, it was a horrible stay. I will never be back there and will advice all not to do so.

by Mark from Glen Cove
Stayed April 2008
I Liked
The atmosphere is upscale, intimate, and charming. The staff was very pleasant and very helpful. I had a problem with my dvd player in the room and they promptly tried to fix it and when they couldn't they insisted I move to a comprable room for my convenience. The location is great also. It is on a very quiet and discret street, but still it is in the center of the shopping area of Berlin.
Also, I requested some items not on the room service menu, and they were happy to oblige.
I Disliked
I wish they had more channels available on the TV, and their room service menu was rather limited.

What is the Tablet Hotels Meter?
The Tablet Hotels Meter is a running average of the ratings given to a hotel by registered Tablet Hotels users who have actually stayed at the hotel. The scores are based on responses to our feedback survey, which is sent automatically to every user after the completion of a hotel stay booked through Tablet Hotels. We receive responses every day, the scores change accordingly - in real-time.
This way we can be absolutely certain of the integrity of the rating process - on some travel websites, there is nothing preventing the General Manager from giving his own hotel a perfect score, or the concierge from across the street, posing as a dissatisfied guest, giving his competitor all zeros. You have probably seen questionable user reviews on other websites, whether flowery advertising copy written by fake guests, or vague negative attacks written anonymously. You will not see any of this on Tablet Hotels.
How does a hotel remain a Tablet Hotel?
We have selected nothing but the most unique and extraordinary properties from around the world, but circumstances at individual hotels can change quickly. Therefore it is up to our customers to inform us if one of our properties has taken a turn for the worse. The Tablet Hotels Meter works on a 20-point scale, and for a hotel to keep its place on Tablet Hotels, the magic number is 15.
This is not just an arbitrary figure; we have two years' worth of data, from past user feedback, and we have found that the hotels whose scores drop below 15 are those experiencing recurring problems, and guest detailed reports reflect the same serious concern, whether it be service, room quality, noise or something else.
The Tablet Hotels Meter will not display a score until we have had at least two customers rate the hotel. This way one person's unfortunate stay cannot carry too much weight. And once five guests have returned their verdicts, the rating becomes a more scientific measure of the opinion of the average guest. At this point, if the hotel's average overall score drops below 15, the hotel will be automatically removed from the site.
Your opinion really does count; in this case, it is the only thing keeping the hotels you visit on the site. On a more positive note, the hotels with top scores are featured in our "Tablet 10" lists. And as a side benefit, this system will encourage hotels to extend their best level of service to Tablet Hotels users - we turn every Tablet Hotels client into a reviewer!

It should go without saying that we don't want to see personal insults or language that a reasonable observer might deem offensive. A personal opinion or recommendation
Hotel reviews are restricted to verified guests who booked their stays through TabletHotels.com. Likewise, travel recommendations must be based on first-hand experience. No recommendations or reviews writen by owners or managers posing as guests, or by current or past employees, or second-hand hearsay from others. If your friend/cousin/neighbor has something to contribute then you should invite them to join the community so that they may share their opinions themselves.
We do not allow recommendations to be written based on incentives from property owners/management. Offering discounts or upgrades or other special treatment in exchange for reviews is very much against the rules, and any property found to be engaging in this sort of thing will be dealt with most unforgivingly.

Written with standard e-mail etiquette
This is a forum with a board readership;don't assume that hotel owners in Milan and tavel agents in Guangzhou are familiar with the latest slang and shorthard, or that typographic symbols will be rendered properly across all platforms. Please don't shout in ALL CAPS - in general, keep it readable. And for various boring technical reasons, HTML tags and most forms of text and paragraph formatting, even simple lists, will not survive the posting process.

These reviews are posted exclusively by verified guests whose stays were booked through TabletHotels.com. We do encourage our clients to express their opinions, and what makes a hotel experience great is often something subjective, a matter of personal taste. At the same time, many of the hotels we list are extreme in one dimension or another, and are bound to disappoint somebody somewhere. These reviews are an excellent way to identify a hotel's particular quirks, and thereby avoid a poor hotel-guest match. But remember: if a hotel's overall customer rating falls lower than 15 out of 20, the hotel will be removed from our listings.
The opinions expressed in these reviews are solely those of our clients; the opinions expressed in any hotel management responses are solely those of the hotels themselves. We do not endorse any of the opinions expressed within the reviews, and we are not affiliated with any of the hotels in question.
