The Shore Club is one of those chic hotels, a magnet for the jet set and for the entertainment and fashion elite — and why not? This is a place with all the hipster cachet of the other uber-modern nightclub hotels, with an added bonus: some real, substantive luxury, from its exclusive atmosphere, keeping out the more craven celeb-watchers, to its richly appointed rooms, with 400-thread-count bedding and massive bathrooms (and Molton Brown bath products).

The design, by David Chipperfield, is close to the edge, but unlike some fashionable hotels, this one is unlikely to need a redesign every season. Guest rooms have a bit more personality than the standard white-on-cream décor, and plenty of space to boot. Suites have striking ocean views, and some rooms have classic poolside baclonies. Eight two-story private cabanas are available, and true recluses can spring for the Beach House, with private gated pool and private beach access, or the Penthouse Suite — 6000 square feet spread over three floors with rooftop pool, private steam room and sauna, and a 360-degree view of South Beach and the ocean. Services across the hotel include 24-hour butler service and a complement of beach services, such as beach-side dining or massage.

Miami's first Nobu restaurant calls the Shore Club home, and Skybar's deep red poolside club is one of Miami's most in-demand nightspots — though, mercifully, it is free from the crowding and scene-making endemic to lesser South Beach bars. This place is strictly for the beautiful people and the hotel guests, which is as it should be. How such a fashionable place could be this calm and under control is a mystery, but a welcome one, for anyone who dreams of a Miami before the masses invaded.

Shore Club

by Cindy from Boca Raton

Overall rating: Good

Stayed July 2008

I Liked

The hotel is always very happening, decor is modern and inviting, and staff is friendly as long as you are a hotel guest. Rooms are nice enough (and I got a great upgrade to a suite as a TabletHotel Member!) although sparsely decorated--cement floors are a little off-putting and cold at first seem to ultimately work well as a beach hotel. Room amenities are good, too.

I Disliked

Drinks at the pool/beach are way overpriced...

Three weeks @ Shore Club, South Beach

by Alasdair from London

Overall rating: Excellent

Stayed March 2008

I Liked

Great location, lovely staff, lovely beach area, SkyBar and Nobu at the hotel. Rooms are cool, elegant and well-appointed. After my first week the management moved me to a much larger room [at same rate as original Tablet booking] which was very nice of them! Staff were very friendly, remembered who you were [even in busiest weekends] and there was some opportunity for A-List spotting.

I Disliked

Only downside is that it is party central on weekends, especially during spring silly season, so if like me you're there on business and actually need some sleep before 3am ask for a quiet room. Of course, many people are there precisely to party, in which case no problems!

What is the Tablet Hotels Meter?

The Tablet Hotels Meter is a running average of the ratings given to a hotel by registered Tablet Hotels users who have actually stayed at the hotel. The scores are based on responses to our feedback survey, which is sent automatically to every user after the completion of a hotel stay booked through Tablet Hotels. We receive responses every day, the scores change accordingly - in real-time.

Tablet Hotels hotel ranking meter

This way we can be absolutely certain of the integrity of the rating process - on some travel websites, there is nothing preventing the General Manager from giving his own hotel a perfect score, or the concierge from across the street, posing as a dissatisfied guest, giving his competitor all zeros. You have probably seen questionable user reviews on other websites, whether flowery advertising copy written by fake guests, or vague negative attacks written anonymously. You will not see any of this on Tablet Hotels.

How does a hotel remain a Tablet Hotel?

We have selected nothing but the most unique and extraordinary properties from around the world, but circumstances at individual hotels can change quickly. Therefore it is up to our customers to inform us if one of our properties has taken a turn for the worse. The Tablet Hotels Meter works on a 20-point scale, and for a hotel to keep its place on Tablet Hotels, the magic number is 15.

This is not just an arbitrary figure; we have two years' worth of data, from past user feedback, and we have found that the hotels whose scores drop below 15 are those experiencing recurring problems, and guest detailed reports reflect the same serious concern, whether it be service, room quality, noise or something else.

The Tablet Hotels Meter will not display a score until we have had at least two customers rate the hotel. This way one person's unfortunate stay cannot carry too much weight. And once five guests have returned their verdicts, the rating becomes a more scientific measure of the opinion of the average guest. At this point, if the hotel's average overall score drops below 15, the hotel will be automatically removed from the site.

Your opinion really does count; in this case, it is the only thing keeping the hotels you visit on the site. On a more positive note, the hotels with top scores are featured in our "Tablet 10" lists. And as a side benefit, this system will encourage hotels to extend their best level of service to Tablet Hotels users - we turn every Tablet Hotels client into a reviewer!

Hotel Review and Travel Recommendation Guidelines

This is a moderated forum; all hotel reviews and travel recommendations must follow the Tablet Hotels and Tablet Talk guidelines below. We will not publish a hotel review or a travel recommendation unless it is:

Original

Please don't quote from other sources or otherwise reprint material published elsewhere, including your own comments on other travel review sites.

Relevant to other travelers

This is not a forum for general political, ethical or religious opinions. Nor is it a place for questions or comments directed to property representatives, Tablet Inc. staff, or other Tablet Talk members - we encourage you to use private channels for such communications. It should go without saying that we don't want to see personal insults or language that a reasonable observer might deem offensive. And please keep your submissions current - no need to mention a trip that happened more than two years ago.

A personal opinion or recommendation

Hotel reviews are restricted to verified guests who booked their stays through TabletHotels.com. Likewise, travel recommendations must be based on first-hand experience. No recommendations or reviews written by owners or managers posing as guests, or by current or past employees, or second-hand hearsay from others. If your friend/cousin/neighbor has something to contribute then you should invite them to join the community so that they may share their opinions themselves.

We do not allow recommendations to be written based on incentives from property owners/management. Offering discounts or upgrades or other special treatment in exchange for reviews is very much against the rules, and any property found to be engaging in this sort of thing will be dealt with most unforgivingly.

Non-commercial

Comment spam is a serious problem, and we will reject even the most borderline cases. No commercial web address, e-mail addresses or contact information. No promotional material of any kind. We reserve the right to reject any URL for any reason.

Written with standard e-mail etiquette

This is a forum with a broad readership; don't assume that hotel owners in Milan and travel agents in Guangzhou are familiar with the latest slang and shorthand, or that typographic symbols will be rendered properly across all platforms. Please don't shout in ALL CAPS - in general, keep it readable. And for various boring technical reasons, HTML tags and most forms of text and paragraph formatting, even simple lists, will not survive the posting process.

These reviews are posted exclusively by verified guests whose stays were booked through TabletHotels.com. We do encourage our clients to express their opinions, and what makes a hotel experience great is often something subjective, a matter of personal taste. At the same time, many of the hotels we list are extreme in one dimension or another, and are bound to disappoint somebody somewhere. These reviews are an excellent way to identify a hotel's particular quirks, and thereby avoid a poor hotel-guest match. But remember: if a hotel's overall customer rating falls lower than 15 out of 20, the hotel will be removed from our listings.

The opinions expressed in these reviews are solely those of our clients; the opinions expressed in any hotel management responses are solely those of the hotels themselves. We do not endorse any of the opinions expressed within the reviews, and we are not affiliated with any of the hotels in question. We reserve the right to remove any of the review or management response at our discretion.
