Sometimes, when it comes to hotels, the name more or less says it all. The Internacional Design Hotel in Lisbon does pretty much exactly what it says on the tin. This classic colonnaded building on Rossio Square may be traditional on the outside, but inside it’s the archetypal contemporary-design boutique hotel, right down to the plentiful white space and the eye-catching modernist furnishings in the guest rooms.
Just because it’s a familiar concept doesn’t mean it can’t conceal a surprise or two. The rooms come in four distinct schemes, so should your fondness for the very spare Urban or Zen looks begin to fade, you can always trade them for the warm neutrals of Tribe or the fierce candy colors of Pop. In any pattern they start out compact but not at all lacking in comfort, and expand to take in up to 25 square meters, taking in a 40-inch TV and a hydromassage tub along the way.
The stylish Naoki restaurant serves a modern Portuguese cuisine, and the Rossio Wine Bar is another fine example of truth in advertising. More unexpected is the Heaven Room, not a white-clad nightclub but a multi-purpose relaxation space, including a reading room, massage space and conference center.

What I liked:
The rooms were well appointed with great views of Lisbon. The staff were all fantastic...very very helpful. I honestly hated to leave after only one night.
What the hotel could do better:
Nothing, had a wonderful stay!
