In buttoned-up, no-nonsense Frankfurt, a sculptural steel-and-glass tower of a business hotel is enough to stand out — though not too much. It helps that the Jumeirah here also happens to be the city’s largest hotel, though in Germany’s financial capital, that sort of Trump-style superlative is far less important than the fact that it’s about as functional, comfortable and well-run a business hotel as you’ll find, in Frankfurt or anywhere else.
The Dubai-based Jumeirah hotel group has reined in the excesses of its hometown to suit the local style, arriving somewhere closer to frankly luxurious than flamboyantly opulent. What this means is that the rooms are spacious, with all the screens and gadgets you could hope for plus tasteful flourishes like original art by the German painter Hartwig Ebersbach. Ride the elevator high enough and you’ll find some enormous skyline-view suites with dining rooms and fireplaces and en-suite saunas, but you hardly need to upgrade to find yourself in a very comfortable room.
If there’s one area where the hoteliers let fly a bit, it is, appropriately, in the business facilities. There’s a venue for any sort of meeting you might need to have, on just about any scale, right up to a grand ball beneath a ceiling embedded with over a hundred-thousand crystals. Perhaps more critically, all the technology you’d need is also at hand, and the restaurants and bars are perfectly suited to striking — or celebrating — a deal.
