To outsiders, the appeal of Mykonos has waxed and waned, cool one decade, uncool the next. For the record, it’s apparently cool again, but ask a local (or better yet, visit yourself) and you’ll find it’s the kind of place whose natural charms should transcend any concerns about relative coolness.
Case in point is Kivotos Hotel. Concerns about hipness are evanescent at best when you’re floating in one of four swimming pools (choose between fresh- or salt-water, piped-in music or not), looking out over the improbably blue waters of the Bay of Ornos. The forty guest rooms are a rather uncomplicated good time as well: the hotel complex winds along terraced paths down the hillside, meaning most of the expansive rooms come with sea views. All are handsome, quietly contemporary rather than strictly modern, decorated with a smattering of antiques and local artworks, and though they feel private they’re anything but remote: attentive staffers are never far away.
Two restaurants, a cocktail bar and a spa and fitness center see to it that all your needs are seen to on site. The beach, a tricky walk down the hill, is smallish and rocky, but no matter — the view is better from poolside anyway. There’s no need to leave, and most will have little inclination; but just in case, a shuttle runs frequently to town (and to some more hospitable beaches).
Please note: Kivotos requires a 4 night minimum in July and August.

What I liked:
To say the staff goes out of their way to be accommodating and customer service oriented would be an understatement. Over the years of traveling we have had the pleasure of staying at very nice resorts and hotels around the world. This staff ranks among the best in customer service, attention to care and thought that we have encountered. We arrived by ferry from Athens and were greeted at the dock by a wonderfully pleasant staff member who transferred us to the hotel in the Kivotos BMW SUV. Upon arrival, Olga, our customer service rep, was waiting to greet us curbside and invited us to their welcome suite where we were treated to the pleasantries one could expect from a five star experience (champagne on arrival, light treats, etc...). We dined that evening in their restaurant and were treated to a wonderful experience filled with greek cuisine and contemporary dishes with a 180 degree view that overlooked the Ornos bay (you could see the moon rise and the city lights illuminate the bay as small ships traveled to and from... great view). My fiancé and I love to enjoy fine dining experiences and always have an eye on the service staff. This staff went above and beyond with attentiveness, personality and presentation. We mentioned we were from California and the Head staff cued a song from the States that we could lightly hear in the back ground. LOL! Awesome.
This is our last night of 4 at Kivotos and we could have easily spent a week here. We will miss the people of Kivitos Resort and look forward to returning in the future.
What the hotel could do better:
This hotel gets a 10 out of 10 from us. Thank you Olga and the entire staff of Kivotos. We will miss you. Kaitlin and Matt from California. :)
