It’s often a bit of a gamble commissioning boutique-hotel interiors from fashion designers, but one thing you can almost always be sure of is that you won’t end up looking at the same tired minimalism you’ve already seen in a thousand other hotels. Extravagant materials, bold colors, quirky details and statements aplenty are pretty much the order of the day, and once in a while it all coheres into something remarkable and unique — certainly that’s the case with Christian Lacroix’s redesign for Paris’s Hotel Bellechasse.
Especially when it comes to Paris hotels we often find ourselves wondering why such a stylish city can’t let its hair down a bit. This place, however, will inspire no such complaints; the Bellechasse borders on the flamboyant, as a glance at the photos will tell you. It’s certainly not for traditionalists, or tourists in search of the typically Parisian; simply put it’s for people who don’t mind a room with extremely bold printed wallpaper, vertical arrow slits for windows, and a bathtub in plain view in the corner of the bedroom, where attempting to use the shower attachment would result in an aquatic disaster of near-Biblical proportions.
That sound you hear is the collective sound of virtually all our business-travel customers (and a sizable proportion of our shower-happy Americans) clicking their browser’s “back” button. Those of you who are still with us, however, will find a hotel that’s delightfully full of character, full of surprises, nearly as comfortable as can be (while stopping just short of out-and-out luxury) and with a fine location to boot, just a block from the Musée d’Orsay.

What I liked:
If Mr. Lacroix himself were in the room I'd have a long list of questions for him. The mish-mash decor feels less like a montage than simple chaos. Having a wallpapered Queen Elizabeth I glaring at you (at eye level) as you lie in bed does not induce a restful sleep. Nor do the random hotel noises. And while I know all Parisian hotels tend towards small, this felt like an unintentional, non-stop game of Twister with 2 people in the room. Why oh why can't the toilet be in the same room as the shower/tub? Finally, I've never been in a Tablet hotel before where I didn't want to use the house toiletries. Very disappointed.
What the hotel could do better:
Tone down the decor and the volume. Better music in the lobby. Toiletries that dont smack of a Comfort Inn.

What I liked:
This is a really cool hotel in a fantastic location. Literally next door to the beautiful musee d'orsay and a block from the Seine, you really can't ask for a better location. The rooms are small, but this is Paris and they are beautifully decorated. The staff was friendly and accomodative and the breakfast was simple but tasty.
What the hotel could do better:
Nothing, had a wonderful stay!

What I liked:
I liked the location; it was very central to every place we needed to get to. The daily buffet breakfast was also great, the waitress was extremely nice.
What the hotel could do better:
The hotel could improve their customer service. The customer service (receptionist/concierge) was horrible. There was a different person every day, and each person was not familiar with the surrounding area to offer suggestions. I also felt as if we were imposing on the staff to request anything, from directions to requesting internet. The only exceptions were the lady from Sweden and guy from Sicily. The internet was in and out during our entire stay, and one day, they had no idea when the internet was going to come back on. Additionally, there was a point when our key card did not work, and we had to go up and down several times to reset the card. Lastly, room service had left their cart and vacuum (with cords out) in front of the elevator -- a complete hazard.
