It’s not just the design, by the Parisian architect Jean-Philippe Nuel, that’s turning heads — this stylish little boutique is garnering notices for its budget-friendly price tag as well. After all, it’s not every day that a new contemporary design hotel sets up shop on these staid old streets, and when one does, it’s most often priced high enough that you’d be better off hiring the architect to do up one of your rooms at home, and just staying there.
Le Général is a three-star hotel, whatever that means anymore — surely if you can’t find something to have for dinner in Paris, you don’t really deserve to eat. Anyway it’s not over-the-top luxurious, just smart, full of modern touches like counter-top basins and Philippe Starck furniture against a sedate background of neutrals and rich woods, all set off with splashes of color — floral arrangements, the odd pink wall, and details like rubber ducks in your bathroom and green apples on your pillows. At these rates satellite television and wireless internet are expected; the fitness center and the sauna are a bit above and beyond. The breakfast room, with that floral-print wallpaper, turns into a cocktail bar in the evening, and serves a hot chocolate of near-legendary status.

Stayed June 2008
Overall rating: Good
I Liked
I was looking for a modern hotel in Paris on a reasonable budget. Le General was fine. Bathrooms were nice. The location was relatively convenient to get around on the metro.I Disliked
Rooms were small, Wi-fi did not work, there was no proper front desk, breakfast was not good. No mini bar.

Paris... Le General Hotel
by Lucy from London
Stayed February 2008
I Liked
Breakfast on the 2nd day when we were allowed it. I Disliked
The room reeked of cigarettes when we arrived. We left the window open to air the room while we went out for dinner, this helped... however on getting into bed the sheets and pillows stank of smoke too - nasty.
Breakfast next morning, we were told we were too late as breakfast had finished being served at 10am (we were never told this upon checking in and were only 10 minutes late) we asked for a coffee to see us through the day and were given the response of a grunt. The coffee arrived with a frown and while we drank it we were subjected to the two waiting staff making comments about us (they supposed we didn't speak French). OK we were in Paris and you expect an amount of aloofness, but this was downright rude and weren't we supposed to be guests?!

What is the Tablet Hotels Meter?
The Tablet Hotels Meter is a running average of the ratings given to a hotel by registered Tablet Hotels users who have actually stayed at the hotel. The scores are based on responses to our feedback survey, which is sent automatically to every user after the completion of a hotel stay booked through Tablet Hotels. We receive responses every day, the scores change accordingly - in real-time.
This way we can be absolutely certain of the integrity of the rating process - on some travel websites, there is nothing preventing the General Manager from giving his own hotel a perfect score, or the concierge from across the street, posing as a dissatisfied guest, giving his competitor all zeros. You have probably seen questionable user reviews on other websites, whether flowery advertising copy written by fake guests, or vague negative attacks written anonymously. You will not see any of this on Tablet Hotels.
How does a hotel remain a Tablet Hotel?
We have selected nothing but the most unique and extraordinary properties from around the world, but circumstances at individual hotels can change quickly. Therefore it is up to our customers to inform us if one of our properties has taken a turn for the worse. The Tablet Hotels Meter works on a 20-point scale, and for a hotel to keep its place on Tablet Hotels, the magic number is 15.
This is not just an arbitrary figure; we have two years' worth of data, from past user feedback, and we have found that the hotels whose scores drop below 15 are those experiencing recurring problems, and guest detailed reports reflect the same serious concern, whether it be service, room quality, noise or something else.
The Tablet Hotels Meter will not display a score until we have had at least two customers rate the hotel. This way one person's unfortunate stay cannot carry too much weight. And once five guests have returned their verdicts, the rating becomes a more scientific measure of the opinion of the average guest. At this point, if the hotel's average overall score drops below 15, the hotel will be automatically removed from the site.
Your opinion really does count; in this case, it is the only thing keeping the hotels you visit on the site. On a more positive note, the hotels with top scores are featured in our "Tablet 10" lists. And as a side benefit, this system will encourage hotels to extend their best level of service to Tablet Hotels users - we turn every Tablet Hotels client into a reviewer!

Hotel Review and Travel Recommendation Guidelines
This is a moderated forum; all hotel reviews and travel recommendations must follow the Tablet Hotels and Tablet Talk guidelines below. We will not publish a hotel review or a travel recommendation unless it is:
Original
Please don't quote from other sources or otherwise reprint material published elsewhere, including your own comments on other travel review sites.
Relevant to other travelers
This is not a forum for general polical, ethical or relighious opinions. Nor is it a place for questions or comments directed to property representatives, Tablet Inc. staff, or other Tablet Talk members - we encourage you to use private channels for such communications. It should go without saying that we don't want to see personal insults or language that a reasonable observer might deem offensive. And please keep your submissions current - no need to mention a trip that happened more than two years ago.
A personal opinion or recommendation
Hotel reviews are restricted to verified guests who booked their stays through TabletHotels.com. Likewise, travel recommendations must be based on first-hand experience. No recommendations or reviews writen by owners or managers posing as guests, or by current or past employees, or second-hand hearsay from others. If your friend/cousin/neighbor has something to contribute then you should invite them to join the community so that they may share their opinions themselves.
We do not allow recommendations to be written based on incentives from property owners/management. Offering discounts or upgrades or other special treatment in exchange for reviews is very much against the rules, and any property found to be engaging in this sort of thing will be dealt with most unforgivingly.
Non-commercial
Comment spam is a serious problem, and we will reject even the most borderline cases. No commercial web address, e-mail addresses or contact information. No promotional material of any kind. we reserve the right to reject any URL for any reason.
Written with standard e-mail etiquette
This is a forum with a board readership;don't assume that hotel owners in Milan and tavel agents in Guangzhou are familiar with the latest slang and shorthard, or that typographic symbols will be rendered properly across all platforms. Please don't shout in ALL CAPS - in general, keep it readable. And for various boring technical reasons, HTML tags and most forms of text and paragraph formatting, even simple lists, will not survive the posting process.

These reviews are posted exclusively by verified guests whose stays were booked through TabletHotels.com. We do encourage our clients to express their opinions, and what makes a hotel experience great is often something subjective, a matter of personal taste. At the same time, many of the hotels we list are extreme in one dimension or another, and are bound to disappoint somebody somewhere. These reviews are an excellent way to identify a hotel's particular quirks, and thereby avoid a poor hotel-guest match. But remember: if a hotel's overall customer rating falls lower than 15 out of 20, the hotel will be removed from our listings.
The opinions expressed in these reviews are solely those of our clients; the opinions expressed in any hotel management responses are solely those of the hotels themselves. We do not endorse any of the opinions expressed within the reviews, and we are not affiliated with any of the hotels in question. We reserve the right to remove any of the review or management response at our discretion.
