For the discerning traveler, Le Mas Candille is a welcome rest from the bustle of the Côte D'Azur. Though just seven kilometers from Cannes, the quiet hillside village of Mougins stands in stark contrast to the tourist mecca of the Riviera.
The hotel itself is a converted 18th-century Provençal farmhouse (or “mas”), but with utterly modern facilities — two heated pools and a Shiseido spa. There is nothing particularly hip about Le Mas Candille, which can certainly be an asset, depending on one's perspective; this place is all about quality, stressing substance rather than flash, in an inversion of the prevailing Côte D'Azur priorities. The atmosphere is somewhere between that of a private villa and a tiny luxury hotel.
The guest rooms are, as is expected, all different, though all share the same general look, a restrained sort of opulence with a smattering of antique furnishings and all the modern conveniences. Restaurant Candille is a fine restaurant, though not exactly a replacement for the once-great Moulin Mougin, and there are casual options as well, at La Pergola and the Bar du Mas.
So it is, in a sense, the best of both worlds; a tranquil and pastoral home base, exclusive and private, with a beautiful and calming view of the surrounding hills, yet conveniently located, close to all the attractions of Cannes and beyond. With only 40 rooms there is little risk of crowding, and it's good to know that at the end of the day you will have someplace peaceful to lay your head.
How to get there:
Le Mas Candille is 25 kilometres from Nice-Cote D'Azur International Airport, 7 kilometres from the Cannes railway station and 5 kilometres from Sophia Antipolis. Please contact customerservice@tablethotels.com to arrange limousine service.

What I liked:
location, pool, service at the pool restaurant, spa
What the hotel could do better:
front desk was not helpful... misunderstanding over a booking in their gourmet restaurant.... arrogant. rooms in the newer section were generous size, beautiful bathrooms, but outdated interior scheme.

What I liked:
The service and food were excellent - top notch. The location great.
What the hotel could do better:
Room could use more attention to reading lights and airconditioning was a bit substandard. We were there is extreme heat and found that unless we were in the pools that there were few places in the hotel complex where we could get out of the heat and enjoy a book or a board game.

What I liked:
I took my new wife for a surprise to Le Mas Candille for our honeymoon and we both loved our time staying there. The hotel itself had a lot of character, the ambiance, gardens and views were beautiful, the pool and the facilities were great and we felt very relaxed being there.
The two points of particular note were the service and location. The service was outstanding, from the friendly and helpful reception, to being given fruit and ice-cream around the pool.
For us, the location was exceptional. We really enjoyed walking to the hilltop village of Mougins in 10 minutes to eat great local food and wine in friendly restaurants every night. Also, we found it easy to drive down to the coast and nearby hills each day to visit towns such as Cannes, Nice etc and be back to relax by the pool with a book later in the afternoon.
What the hotel could do better:
The prices were as struggle. I accepted the room rate because it was our honeymoon and we stayed just 4 days, this rate would be a challenge to staying again. Food and drink was expensive, we did not eat at the restaurant but found the village more afordable.
