Le Savoie Hôtel & Spa
Avenue Olympique
Val d'Isere, France
Style: Modern Design
Atmosphere: Lively
25 Rooms
There was a time when Alpine hotel rooms could be counted on to be cozy, at best — when you’re virtually guaranteed to be spending your entire day on the slopes, or so the thinking ran, why waste space on expansive, luxurious rooms and suites? It’s a mindset you’ll still see replicated in certain places, but not here: at Le Savoie, in the French resort of Val d’Isere, you’ll find living spaces of such humane, stylish comfort that it might be a struggle to pry yourself out of bed in the morning.
Well, you won’t really, not with those impossible peaks beckoning. But you’re sure to appreciate Le Savoie’s almost residential vibe — the suites, in particular, are almost indistinguishable from private residences, and the whole hotel is designed to the exacting standards of a private home (albeit one with a pronounced taste for blond wood).
And there’s just as much at Le Savoie to tempt you out of your room as at any of the Alps’ finest boutique-sized properties. Le Grain de Sel serves dinner in a chic roof-terrace space, with decorative antlers nowhere to be found, and the champagne bar turns après-ski into an altogether more elegant affair. Meanwhile Le Savoie never loses sight of its primary function: the pro shop and shuttle service make the ski commute a breeze, and the Payot spa awaits to soothe tired bones.
