The label "Made in Taiwan" used to carry a connotation of cheapness, of inferior goods imported from an inferior overseas economy. But as the fortunes of the region have risen, Taiwan has emerged as a tech powerhouse, one whose citizens probably now buy cheap knick-knacks with a Made in USA label. Les Suites Taipei Ching-cheng is located right in the middle of Taipei's bustling financial and commercial district; yet it is a quiet, peaceful place, as a business hotel should be - a buffer against the noise and chaos of the world outside. We are tempted to use the word "Zen," and risk accusations of confusing China with Japan (and Taiwan with mainland China, for that matter).
The hotel's 90 rooms and suites are spacious and open, in a contemporary style designed to match Taipei's self-image as a new tech business capital. There is nothing shocking about the interiors, just a sense of brisk minimalism, in grey and burgundy, with touches of dark wood and efficiently simple furniture. The in-room services live up to the high-tech billing, with Sony flat-screen TVs and both ADSL and wireless internet access.
The corner suites are an especially good bet, with as much space as you could possibly need. These feature king beds, full bathrooms, and large separate living rooms. There is a VIP suite, in case you absolutely require a separate dining room, or are planning on hosting a meeting or a party. There is no restaurant, as this is a hotel for the business traveler on the go. There is, of course, breakfast, and coffee and tea service, available 24 hours a day. Gym access and parking are both included, and computers are available in the lounge, along with light snacks.

What I liked:
Understated, muted design (a rarity in Taipei from my experience). The hotel is comfortable and calm, the staff very accommodating, the breakfast is varied and quite good, internet is reliable and they even can give you a local cell phone (free of charge) so that you are reachable from wherever you are in the city.
What the hotel could do better:
Room service throughout the day with an extended menu would be a plus. The current schedule, from 22:00 to 2:00 is a little limited, as is the menu selection.

What I liked:
First room had some electrical problems, but once they moved me it was outstanding. The location was great. It was half a block to the train station on the neihu line that runs near the office, so no transfers were needed. That let me save a couple bucks a day on the commute. It was NTD$40 each way by train, NTD$180-200 each way by taxi. The staff was fairly fluent in English and that helped with check-in, getting directions, taxis, etc. Breakfast at the hotel was good, in-room coffee was good, minibar and room service prices were quite low by US standards.
What the hotel could do better:
Nothing, had a wonderful stay!
