Luxx XL

82/8 Langsuan, Lumphini

Bangkok, Thailand

Style: Cutting-Edge

Atmosphere: Lively

51 Rooms

There’s plenty of room for small boutiques alongside the five-star mega-chains of Bangkok’s outsized hotel industry. Inhabiting a prime location on the upscale Langsuan Road, Luxx XL is a fashionable alternative to glitzy opulence. In a city where the best hotels seem to be housed in towers, this seven-story building is an oasis of modest charm. And you’ve got to love a hotel group whose definition of extra-large is fifty-one rooms.

The interior is decked out in handsome teak, from the walls to the furniture, outfitting rooms that are sparse yet welcoming. Floor-to-ceiling windows let in plenty of light and open onto balconies, ensuring that the aesthetic never seems cold, bringing the straight lines of the interiors in contact with the unstructured city outside. Bathrooms take a left turn into sweat-lodge chic, with slate stone walls and partitions that open to reveal small, personal terraces. For longer stays, the suites offer basic kitchen facilities.

Over half of the Luxx XL is dedicated to public space, making it seem much more expansive than the average urban boutique. Outside, the bar overlooks the garden and stone infinity pool, which is adjacent to a business center and an elegant executive lounge. When you’re extra-large, it’s essential that you appeal equally to business and leisure guests, and Luxx walks this line without a single false step.
