To many outsiders the very idea of “modern Jerusalem” seems almost a contradiction in terms — but if you’d like an introduction, the Mamilla Hotel is it. Though located just yards outside the walls of the Old City, and though it pays homage throughout to the sandy-colored limestone that defines Jerusalem’s architecture, the Mamilla is every inch a modern, stylish, boutique-style luxury hotel. With its earthy tones and inspired contemporary furniture it wouldn’t be terribly out of place in a city like Milan, for example, but in Jerusalem it’s an absolute revelation.
With just shy of two hundred rooms, it’s slightly larger than boutique-sized. And the rooms are economical with space, laid out open-plan to make the most of their dimensions. The natural materials — stone walls, wood floors — contrast with some decidedly high-tech touches, such as the glass-walled bathroom which, thanks to LCD technology, turns electronically opaque at the push of a button.
There’s a thousand-square-meter spa, as well as a pair of fairly striking nightspots: the Mirror Bar and the Winery. A café and a more formal dining room handle much of the meal service, but the Rooftop is probably the Mamilla’s most compelling space, with its far-ranging views over the expanse of all Jerusalem.

What I liked:
Fantastic central location, closer to the Old City than the King David.
Rooms/ decor were amazing - attention to detail (liquid crystal glass in bathroom, etc) was superb. Very stylish and comfortable.
Selection of good bars within hotel - rooftop bar had lovely views over Old City walls
What the hotel could do better:
Nothing, had a wonderful stay!
