The Mandarin Oriental hotels famously bring a taste of Far East ultra-luxury to American shores, and the San Francisco outpost goes even a step further; to the Asian-inspired décor and the top-flight service, add the simple fact that the Mandarin is San Francisco’s highest hotel, occupying the top floors of the city’s third-tallest building, resulting in sweeping panoramic views of the sort more often associated with Tokyo or Hong Kong hotels than with those of this low-slung, compact city.
And in true Mandarin style, much is made of those views — there’s nowhere else in this city where you can take in a bird’s-eye view of the bay while soaking in an extra-deep tub the way you can in the Mandarin King rooms. Standard rooms are no disappointment either, and the city view is nothing to complain about, especially given the fact that every room comes complete with a set of binoculars. All rooms are decorated in that signature blend of modern zen and classic Asian antique, with Frette Egyptian cotton sheets, 25-inch televisions and high-speed wired and wireless internet access, and all benefit from 24-hour room service and twice daily visits from housekeeping.
Business and fitness facilities are comprehensive, and the restaurant, Silks, serves an inspired Pacific Rim cuisine. The Mandarin Oriental is located in the heart of the financial district, minutes from most of downtown’s best shopping and dining, and just blocks away from the theater district and the waterfront tourist attractions.

What I liked:
service was really good and it was close to the Embarcadero
What the hotel could do better:
the lobby barely had any room, there was no gift shop for incidentals, and the restaurant bar was tiny. Also, the bathroom was so small - compared to the MO in Boston, the rooms were older and not as nice - they had been renovated but you could tell the building was old. Also, our floor always smelled like food - we must have had the kitchen right below us.

What I liked:
Room and service
What the hotel could do better:
restuarant menu was rather smal and restrictive.
With several nights stay, I only ate in the resturant once as it was disapointing.
