The American novelist James Michener once proclaimed Marigot Bay in St. Lucia the most beautiful bay in the Caribbean. Take it from a tropical-island expert: there’s hardly a finer spot to soak up some sun, and there’s nowhere more grand at Marigot than Discovery, a three-story complex of a hundred-plus rooms and suites cut into the wooded hillside above the bay.
The bay has long been a favorite destination of a nomadic sail-in/sail-out crowd; Discovery takes the concept upscale. Berths are available at the marina for private yachts, but the stylish modern-luxe accommodations will make land-lovers out of the saltiest sea dogs. Rooms have slate floors and pillow-top beds, Italian appliances, Egyptian cotton sheets and wireless internet access — all the standards — but in unusually spacious, high-ceilinged spaces, made from environmentally friendly sustainable materials .
