Montpelier Plantation’s history goes back centuries, but it only became a hotel in the 21st century. Now they’re making up for lost time — what was, not all that long ago, a disused and overgrown sugar plantation is now the Montpelier Plantation Inn, one of the top options on the delightfully under-traveled Caribbean island of Nevis. And you can’t really hold its newness against it — on the contrary, the only thing better than a luxe renovation is a new build.

The result is a resort that’s a bit more contemporary than the West Indies norm, the dozen and a half guest rooms pared-down and open to the breeze. High-tech touches like flat-screen televisions and iPod docks are slightly unexpected, though certainly welcome; as Nevis is essentially about the quiet life, a bit of in-room entertainment goes a long way.

There’s a fair bit of attention paid to the food and wine, which is often a weakness in Caribbean resorts; this focus may be another benefit of starting fresh. And adding to the privacy of it all is the fact that the Montpelier Plantation Inn stands not on the beach, but in the hills a few miles from the coast. Thus it earns high marks for peace and quiet, for which a short shuttle ride to the Inn’s private beach is a small price to pay.

How to get there:

If you fly to St. Kitts, a Montpelier representatice will meet you at the airport upon your arrival and assist with the ferry transfer to Nevis. There are two ferry options to Nevis: private/semi-private water taxi or the public ferry. Due to limited public ferry schedule we advise you to consider the private water taxi for a swift and easy transfer. Please contact the hotel for more information so that we can offer you any assistance with your transfer and advise you of pricing and specials.

Please contact customerservice@tablethotels.com to arrange airport transfers.
