By the time you get to Playa del Carmen it’s pretty clear you’re in Mexico — so why the big hotels insist on playing up the colonial-kitsch influence, we couldn’t begin to say. Some of the more distinguished hotels break this mold, however, like Mosquito Blue, a small, stylish and laid-back hotel, and something of an architectural statement, in its own subtle way, blending the traditional Yucatan look with distinct Polynesian and modern Mediterranean elements, resulting in a style that’s charming and unique.
Standard rooms are cozy and rather dark, in the Spanish style, on the principle that there’s more than enough sunshine outside. If you’re dying to bathe in natural light, then a Deluxe with an outdoor patio — or one of the bright and airy suites — might be more your speed. In any case, the rooms and suites are handsome, spare but not minimalist, comfortable but understated in their luxury.
Mosquito Blue Restaurant serves Mexican and Mediterranean cuisine, and here, in terms of atmosphere at least, you’re rather closer to Playa del Carmen’s nightlife than to the beach (itself just a very short walk away), which suits this adults-only getaway just fine. Diversions include two quiet and child-free pools and a fairly lavishly equipped spa, and there’s a private beach a few minutes farther down the road for when you’re after a measure of privacy.
Please note: Mosquito Blue can only accommodate guests over the age of 16.

What I liked:
Wonderful hotel with remarkable service. Same can be said of its sister property, Mosquito Beach. Location is exceptional with easy access to all of Playa's hot spots. Restaurant was exceptional - the best in Playa del Carmen.
What the hotel could do better:
Nothing, had a wonderful stay!

What I liked:
This review is actually for Mosquito Beach - our internet reservation was messed up and so they upgraded us to their other hotel. Mosquito Beach has perfect Playa location being both on the beach and in the heart of the strip though quieter It looked like Mos. Beach was quieter than Mos. Blue. Pool was great and always empty. Beach beds probably the most luxurious on the beach with excellent waitor service.
What the hotel could do better:
Rooms were decidedly worn around the edges. Nowhere to put products in bathroom or hang wet stuff (it's a beach hotel?!)plus features the worlds most uncomfortable (square) toilet. 'Designer' but at the expense of comfort and practicality. (And I'm a designer so to me that just adds up to bad design). Bathroom also wasn't as clean as it might be.

What the hotel could do better:
The room was a bit 90's and dated, with very loud air-con
