Mykonos may remind some of the swinging Sixties, as the playground of aristocrats like Jackie and Aristotle Onassis—but the island has had a resurgence of late. Some may still be trying to recapture the good old days of decades past, but hotels like Theoxenia have their eyes set firmly on the present.
The location is prime, just up the hill from Mykonos town center, a renovation of a listed landmark building (itself one of those famed Sixties playgrounds) right alongside the famous windmills, subject of a thousand postcards. And the hotel is almost entirely the opposite of what one expects from a grand old Greek seaside hotel. Sure, it is dressed mostly in white, with splashes of that distinctive Aegean blue, but the interiors are modern — Sixties-influenced, to be sure, but up to date, and positively glowing in the Mediterranean sunlight. Shag carpets on stone floors and whimsical primary-colored furnishings pop out as tributes to that famous era, but there’s little of the quality of a museum about the place.
As fun as the décor may be, the hospitality is deadly serious — you’ll be handed a drink before your bags are out of the car, and a bottle of wine will be waiting in the room. The pool is the social center of the hotel, and you can book a boat trip with that special someone to the uninhabited island of Delos, one of ancient Greece’s holiest places.
Those whose tastes run to more worldly entertainment will find plenty to do on Mykonos as well, from world-class shopping and dining, to thriving nightclub scenes of all persuasions, and beaches for every taste and dress code. Add all this to these stunning natural surroundings and it’s easy to see why Mykonos is something like Greece’s answer to Ibiza.
Please note: Mykonos Theoxenia requires a 5-night minimum stay July 20–August 26. There is a 3-night minimum stay requirement June 11-October 8.

What I liked:
What an amazing trip. The pool was a welcome sanctuary after an otherwise vigorous vacation and the rooms, as well as the other guests, made our trip to Greece truly memorable.

What I liked:
The service and staff was incredible. Also, the location is way too downplayed. It is the nicest hotel you can find that close to all of the downtown excitement. I would recommend this hotel for anyone who wants something safe, beautiful, and amazing. Also, in the morning the breakfast was delicious and right over the water.
