Imagine the perfect apartment. If you were glamorous, talented, with piles of money and more aesthetic sense than you knew what to do with, yours would be rather like No. 5 Maddox Street. It’s not a conventional hotel, but a dozen or so very modern studios (complete with kitchens) in the heart of Mayfair. Okay, so maybe Mayfair is a slightly odd choice for the perfect apartment, but as a boutique hotel, it’s urban living perfected, heaven for shoppers and close by to Soho’s bustling nightlife.

The apartments are stylish and contemporary, far from minimal, with bamboo floors (so sustainable) and fake-sable throws on the beds. Linen kimonos may ruin terrycloth for you forever, and the well-stocked kitchens mean you hardly need to put your clothes back on anyway — you’ll find upon opening the fridge that a bit of grocery shopping has been done for you, and the staff will happily run out for more, or order in from any of what seem like hundreds of local restaurants.

Discretion is the name of the game here. No. 5 Maddox Street is for travelers who find the buzz of the “hip boutique” a bit tiresome. There’s no lift, and the best suites are on the top floors — but if you still find yourself in need of exercise, a partnership with a nearby gym ensures you’ll be well looked after. And what’s most remarkable is that there’s no bar either — you’re responsible for your own entertainment, which frankly is a rather liberating feeling in today’s hospitality world.

How to get there:
No. 5 Maddox Street is a 3 minute walk from the Oxford Circus tube station. If you're arriving from Heathrow Airport the most convenient transfer option to central London is The Heathrow Express Train which leaves Heathrow Airport every 15 minutes and takes 15 minutes to arrive at Paddington Station. One way fares are available from £18 and roundtrip fares from £32. By black cab, No. 5 Maddox is approximately a 45 minute ride from Heathrow Airport (depending on traffic) and can cost upwards of £50.
