The London hotel scene is something of a proving ground for new trends in the hotel business — but you’d have to look long and hard at No11 Cadogan Gardens to find any evidence of progress. This is a hotel that delights in keeping to the trailing edge rather than the cutting one, a small monument to old-fashioned hospitality and a reminder of a time long past.
This is the original Chelsea townhouse hotel, comprising four old Victorian houses facing a garden square just off Sloane Street, midway between Harrods and Sloane Square. Reception is informal, just a butler and a guest book, and the bedrooms are as charming as can be, stocked with antique furnishings, fine fabrics, and Molton Brown products in the elegant marble bathrooms. All rooms are individually decorated, and vary in layout as well; some upper-floor suites face out the back, looking over a private garden.
A dining room decorated in breezy blue and white serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and afternoon tea is taken in the drawing room, followed by sherry and canapes in the early evening. Of course your dining options extend beyond the No11 kitchen; cafés and restaurants abound up and down Sloane Street and Kings Road, as do shops of every conceivable variety. From here a trip to Harrods is practically obligatory, and the Victoria and Albert and the Natural History and Science museums lie just beyond.
How to get there:
No11 Cadogan Gardens is just minutes from the Sloane Square tube station. If you’re arriving from Heathrow Airport, the most convenient transfer option to central London is the Heathrow Express train, which leaves Heathrow Airport every 15 minutes and takes 15 minutes to arrive at Paddington Station. One-way fares are available from £18, and round-trip fares from £32. By black cab, No. 11 London is approximately a 45-minute ride from Heathrow Airport (depending on traffic) and can cost upwards of £50.

What the hotel could do better:
Bad food. Over priced house water. Dated bathrooms and interiors. Unfinished interiors. Dirty/unhygienic. Bad gym. All staff were non english speaking as primary language. Too dark.

What I liked:
The service was very good. The staff was very professional. The location is wonderful.
What the hotel could do better:
The hotel is very dark - deliberately - low lighting, very dark colors in the lobby and public rooms. It didn't appeal to me. If one likes bright, cheery spaces, this is not the place for you.
