Singapore’s reputation for conservatism still holds true in many areas of life, but in recent years the Singaporean hotel scene has come to life in a big way — a hotel like the Quincy just wouldn’t have been possible here a decade ago.

As if in recognition of the fact that Singapore is a bit of a special case, the Quincy is experimental in at least one respect: it’s all-inclusive, meaning the rate covers not just the room but all meals, limousine airport transfers, drinks, laundry, local phone calls — a policy that would be liberal enough by the beach in Jamaica, and is just about unheard of in the city.

One thing they’re not conservative about in Singapore is new construction, and the Quincy is certainly the better for it. It’s the rare modern building that radiates fun in the way this one does, right up to the cantilevered pool that juts out of the side of the building — best seen from inside, where its glass walls seem to disappear.

As for the rooms, they’re certainly stylish, all wide-open studios with lively colors and all the expected gadgetry. Rain showers and separate tubs show a dedication to tactile pleasures. There’s a stylish ground-floor restaurant, and the bustling Orchard Road is a short distance away.
